Getting ready to pull the trigger on a fresh '17 kit for some 13.5 clay/dirt racing.

Are the aluminum collars for the center driveshafts and CVA's a must have?

https://www.amainhobbies.com/xray-al...5471-k/p276702

Thx!

Not necessary. But I would highly recommend them. Seen alot of races ended cuz the pins push through the plastic

I have been cheap and not bought the aluminum collars. I have about 15 races on mine and plastic collars are still not showing any signs of a pin trying to push threw. I clean mine about every other race. I just installed the durango rubber boots to cover them. The first 2 fought me so I used black grease on the front 2 rubber boots and they fell off. It's already a tight fit on the front but I think w/out the grease they would of stayed on. I always use hudy graphite grease on the actual pin/barrel. If I can get the durango rubber covers to stay on I will try to go 3 or 4 race days before cleaning/re-greasing. I guess I'm waiting for a pin to shoot threw the plastic collar before buying the aluminum ones.

Very good insurance policy on one of the very few stock items known to fail.

Ran my XB4 for the first time on our new turf with carpet jumps. I had it all set up for clay and it ran great on the dirt. The turf however another story. Anyone have a base starting point setup sheet I could look at. I started going to a higher front and rear diff oil. That helped calm the buggy down. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks guys. I looked at Bruno's setup. I would never have thought to have a higher diff oil in the rear. I'm gonna try it and see how it goes.

It's your best bet. The JConcepts 0258 Finnisher body designed for the original XB4 and '14 sorta fits, but you have to trim out the back and raise the front body post. You can still find them for sale, but they're discontinued.

Remember Hollywood that that's a setup for a pro driver. The car is very twitchy and responds more like an onroad car. I would stay with the 30k in front 20k in rear to make the car easier to drive.

I built a 17 for our new astro turf track this summer. Be doubly sure your slipper settings are correct or you will roach even the steel bevel gears, ask me how I know . IMO, the kit setting for the slipper is too tight. Each weekend I backed my slipper off a half turn until I had no adjustment left, and I still could not hear or feel it slip. I add to remove material from each end of the spring before I had the needed adjustment to get it to slip. On extremely high traction like turf, the slipper setting is critical to drive-train life as well as performance. When I finally got my slipper setting right, the car did everything better.

Hi guys I would like to race the car in 17.5T stock, but the smaller spur gear is just 75 tooth. Can I get anything in any other brand smaller than 75 that fit the xray slipper clutch? Maybe 72 tooth.

Thanks
