You must have been looking at the '14 model, that's the last year it was saddle pack only.

Here's the '17: https://teamxray.com/xb4/2017/en/

And here's the '17 manual: https://teamxray.com/downloads/78/39...manual_low.pdf

John at HobbyStar is an awesome dude whom has been in the RC industry for decades. Thus he really knows his stuff and has worked on providing top tier lipos for an excellent price.

IMO, it's not worth trying to upgrade or mod the '14 to accept a shorty pack. You would be better off selling the '14 and getting a '15 or newer XB4 if you really want to run shorties. I'm still running a '14 and have been using 5000 mAh Turnigy Nano Tech packs from Hobbyking (only because I couldn't get SMCs. Ha!). The buggy is set up for our 13.5 Super Stock class.

FWIW, all the other XRay guys in our club are running newer chassis. Yeah, sometimes I kinda feel like I'm left out, but I don't feel like it's holding me back. At least that's what I tell myself to avoid spending coin on a new rig. It's kinda fun running the older dog, but I suppose one of these days I'll make a move on a new machine.

After I don't know how many "new" cars iv'e had over the decades and then having run the new and old together I can say one thing for sure..... 90% of the time the new car is maybe one mistake faster than the old car.

I run the SMC 5600mah saddles in my 14 XB4, they (SMC) are the only batteries I'll buy anymore. if your track surface is med to loose the saddle configuration may even give you an advantage with the extra weight in the rear. The 14 XB4s do very well at my local track against the newer 15 & 16 XRAYs.

Does anyone run the brass rear hangers on their xb4? Are they worth the $60? Meaning do they actually give you better/noticeably more traction. I'm trying to decide between those or the alum rear hubs and alum steering rack arm

Haha! I'll remember that the next time I need to gain spousal approval for any new RC stuff I want.

Pretty much most of the setups are using alum hinge pin holders. I haven't seen anyone list the brass in a setup yet.

IMO I would get the car on the track and get track time on it and see how you like it. The car really doesn't need alot of the flashy hop ups. It works great out of the box. The only real upgrade I did was the Exotek Steering plate.

Who won wheeler this week?

Also it looks like SMC doesn't carry saddle packs anymore.

Haha, I just had to give you a hard time

The truth is all versions of the XB4 are awesome cars. And the extra weight of the '14 with saddles does help when traction is low and it gets a little dustier like the end of that race.
