How to Make Ghost Slicks?
#17
Baldy's act like slick by allowing max rubber on clay for max forward bite.
Side tread adds grip on the turns where dust lives outside the groove .
Note :dust is usually very low inside the groove...
529 we call
*treads
*baldy's
*slicks

Slicks are a interesting topic ....
Dave , if baldy's are working ?
You can run a slick if your really good and never step out on a turn .
If you do step outside and get a just little dust on a slick ?
will take a 10 or 20ft of groove to remove or dust the tire off and bring back the grip .....
At Trcr we have to know how to tune for track conditions as the layout ages & dry's .
We always start with
scuffed treads
then baldy
In the summer the track drys extra , so at the end of the layouts life slicks sometimes can be used.

It really depends on what compound you are taking down on the exact method. I have various files and devices I use. The main thing you want to remember is keep the rubber cool as possible, otherwise it will can gum up.
Once done you can take some duck tape and roll the tire across it to remove any fraying rubber from the top of the pins, provided you didn't sand them to slicks.

At the fall classic at leisure hours a couple weeks ago a lot is were running slicks in back and pin I'm front because traction was so high and the layout was very high speed. This was an exception to the rule. Slicks in front did work with several setup changes.
By far the hands down best way to make slicks or ghost pins is to put them on a drill press and use a sanding block! Cannot recommend this enough.

Yes, almost anytime you run slicks on the back, a lot of times to tame the car down we'll run ghost pin or 1/4 pin front.
