Default HELP ~ Best/Recommendations SCT set ups/ESC/Motor/Suspension/MODS

Hello fellow RCTekies,

I am recently returning to the hobby after a 1.5-2yr rest. Being that things change in gear and electronics over night, I am sure I am behind in the times.
My question to all of you who stayed in the loop of things is: What is the best or Recommended ESC & MOTOR combo for 1/10 scale Short Course Trucks. The only 1/10 system I have ever been acquainted with is the VXL. Which imo is the best stock system out there and can be used in any 1/10 rig.

I have now acquired 3 SCT in the past week trying to start off where I left off w/o braking the bank. I have obviously FAILED so far. I am so pumped and wanna get going again.2 of the 3 have no electronics so I eventually will be looking for servos and what not but as of now, I would like to know whats best for the heart and guts of these trucks. If it matters, 1 is a TRAXXAS SLASH while the other is a OFNA JAMMIN SCRT10. And my 3rd is for my son, the RTR TRAXXAS SLASH vxl 4X4. So, he is good. Its me that needs the goods.

I will give some personal info and likes. I like speed, power, torque, reliability...yeah, something that has the best of all the qualities in a system. I am mainly a front yard, open field or street basher. But do plan on going to the track to run 1 on 1's with my son. I also plan on running lipo's. Before the responses start, I see lots of you guys run TEKIN equip.

HELP~ and THANKS!

Are you bashing or racing?

If you're just bashing, then get whatever you can find the best deal on.

If racing, stick to the bigger brands LRP, Tekin, Oiron, Novak, etc.

I have run tekin rx8 and pro 4 in my 4wd and tekin rs with Orion in my 2wd. I am currently going to try out the Hobbywing Sct pro system and see how that does. It is a very well priced system with excellent reviews!

Is your traxxas slash 2wd or 4wd? That makes an electronics difference

The Hobbywing Xerun 3656SD is an awesome motor and the Pro Sct Esc is pretty good too. Just make sure you know what kV you're getting since it'll matter for the batteries you'll be using.

More then likely, I will be getting 3s 5000mah Lipos as I had before I sold everything. What is recommended then?

A lot of systems are 3s compatible now. Now if you decide that you want to race (which is fun) they don't allow 3s. It's 2s max. Just be careful some motors don't like thy kind of peer and you will go through bearings quicker. If it were me, I'd just stay 2s a 30-50c 5000 will put a smile on your face!

so, after reading up some it seems the more "Practical" and all around operating system is the combo with the KV3400 motor. Is this correct?

If you are putting this in a 4x4 I would look more toward a 4000kv or 4600kv motor.
