Default Best Motor for Short Course Truck

I am going to be running a 60c 5600mah 2s lipo on a new Team C TS4 short course truck.

Does anyone have any recommendations on which motor to choose? I am torn between getting a 540 or 550 size motor. I feel the truck to be pretty light and suitable for a 540 can.

thanks for any advice guys!

As just a general rule for 4x4 SC you want a 550 or a 4-pole 540 to move it around the track, the 2-pole 540 motors tend to get too hot.

You will get a 100 opinions, but here a few ways to look at it.

For a budget, you can do well with the castle 3800KV or the tenshock motors.

I also like the Ballistic 550 motors since you can rebuild them one part at a time, or even change out the stator for different KV setups.

The Pro4 motors have a huge following, and are worth it if you can spend to set it up, and the new Revtech quads look to be strong motors as well.

Beyond that there a ton of good 550 motors to pick... but I have only dealt with Trinity and Ballistics in mine, and the trinity 550 is discontinued in favor of the 4-pole Revtech setups.

There are a lot of "right" choices, first thing to figure out is do you want ROAR spec (tenshock is not ROAR legal, or the castles if I recall right). Then decide if you want a 540 can or 550 can, then pick the right KV or turn for the track you plan to run.

There are a few 4000's in the for sale section.
Thats what I use and love it! Perfect on small to medium sized tracks and is pretty good on the big ones too! But the 4600 shines a lil more on the big tracks though!

My Castle 1410 is pretty much overkill in my xxx. So It should be awesome in a 4x4!

Checkout the Hobbywing Xerun SCT Pro 3656D 4-pole system, great power and great prices as well..

I would definatly go with a 4 pole 540 motor, for the simple fact that they are lighter than the 550 motor. You will have plenty of power in either case, but you will have a better balanced rc with the 540 4pole.

The hobbywing xerun 4pole 4000kv is with out a doubt the best motor for anyone in the pro4 class. Motor will walk away from a tekin, and runs as good if not better than the tenshock 411, and weighs less than the tenshock. You will have to worry more about balancing for run time than heat with the xerun motor. With a tekin all you do is balance power and temp and you really need a rx8 to keep it usable.

pro4 for me...i like the power that it makes. but like people say you don't have to, but the rx8 is the ONLY way to go with the pro4
