Default 1700kv 5 cell or 2000kv 4 cell for Truggy

So I would like to know what you all would do. I'm looking at converting my Losi 8ight-T nitro to electric, I'm swaying between running a 4 cell lipo and a 2000Kv motor or a 5 cell and a 1700Kv with an RX8. I drive very smooth and know when and when not to use the power and like to have power on reserve to get by the basher racers, I'm also concerned about run times. I'm looking at a 5000Mh capacity battery.

Anyone who has run both and can give me some quality feedback is appreciated.

Let's hear what you have to say.

1350 on 6s is the most popular and works very well in truggy. 1700 on 5s would be my next choice. With the 6s setup you only need a 3000-3300mah lipo.

5 cell, I would suggest 1550, 4 cell 2000. As for runtime, 5 cell 1550. imo, the 1700 isn't that great of a motor. I have owned all three and was least impressed with the 1700. Good luck.

Is the extra weight a problem with 6 cell in the Truggy? and what kind of run time would you get with the 3300mah battery and the 1350?

Well i would say a 2000kv on 4s because for one i dont see many guys i race with run a lower KV and higher cell lipos than that on there truggys.

At tracks ive been to at least.

A 6 cell lipo will be pretty heavy in a truggy. I have a Max Amps 10,000 mah 4s lipo thats heavy as a brick.

Too much weight in a truggy is not always good.

A 6s 3300 is no different weight wise than a 5000 4s. The 6s setup is very efficient and temps run cool. The 1550 on 5s is a good choice as well.

Oh ok i see i never had heating issues with my 2200kv on 4s though.
I was thinking because it has more cells that would be heavyer.

The smaller mah lipo compensates for it in turn making it more efficient.

I ran 6S 1350kv in my E truggy last year with no issues and I was just as fast, if not faster than any other E truggy on the track! Great combo.

So I found this chart that gives an average mh/min usage based on # of cells and kv motor size, this is how it shakes down. Let me know what you think.

4 cell 2000kv
-14.4 volts x 2000kv=28,800 rpms avg. 380 mah/min=15.2 min w/5800mh battery that weighs 629 grams.

5 cell/1700kv
-18 volts x 1700kv=30,600 rpms avg. 290 mah/min=20 min w/5800mh battery that weighs 836 grams.

6 cell/1350kv
-21.6 volts x 1350kv=29,160 rpms, avg. 220 mah/min=22.7 min w/5000mh battery that weighs 895 grams.

Interesting data once you lay it out, we usually run the nitro and electric Truggy's together for enough to make a good class and have shortened the main to 12 min so everyone can make it with one mandatory pit stop of 8 seconds for electric and nitro has to make one fuel stop. I know that some of the tracks we go to race 20 min truggy mains regardless of electric or nitro. so at my home track the 5 cell/1700kv combo looks the best, but overall for racing at all tracks in the area, it looks like the 6 cell/1350 may be the better choice and doesn't give up much in the rpms.

Would still like some more oppinions or maybe personal experiences with any of the above listed combos.

Thanks

I run a 1350 on a 5800mah 6 cell and get 40+ minutes. Never any overheating issues. Truck handles great.

40+ min bashing is not racing...... Anyway

I've run all three configs, currently 1550 on 6s and it's perfect. Tekin motor with hobbywing 150a esc. I run nanotech 4300 6s packs and get through up to 18mins or so at full. I also run a losi 8ight-t 2.0 and the weight is perfect.

If u run 4s get hyperion 6500mah packs, those will last you several seasons.

Best setup hands down. Been running this setup; Tekin 1350kv on 3300mah Venom 6s hard case lipos) and get 15 to 18 minutes of hard running track time. Setup runs cool all day long.

Be interesting to do a test with a 6S battery that weighs similar to the 4S battery so its not pushing around more weight.
