Default What is this used for?

Ok now this is a odd question...

I have been to a couple web sites and looked at some pictures and there are pictures of pit areas and I notice some have Brake Cleaner on there tables.

What do they use Brake Cleaner for? It is not a replacment for motor spray is it? Never head of this being used before.

It replaces the motor spray, as it is a good solvent cleaner that leaves absoloutely no residue behind (would you want oil or grease on your car brakes???)

You dont use it on electric motors do you? So it is also a good chassis cleaner as well? Along with cleaning up messy shocks after refilling them?

motor, shocks, whatever takes you fancy, you use it the same as motor cleaner, just don't need to go to the model shop to buy it.

none of the brake cleaner will turn anything white (unless you are talking maybe plastic) as the brake cleaner is a non-residue cleaning agent, designed to be sprayed on flushing away dirt/grease from brake components and then evaporating away leaving a clean surface.

If you want something to clean bearings with before using motor spray, get carb cleaner and leave it in a jar with the bearings in, it disolves all the crud but not the bearing.

What will NOT turn chassis white? Hard to spray into wheel bearings at the race track to clean the bearings without it getting on the chassis.

Take the wheel bearings out then, as spraying them in situ doesn't clean them, if they got shields on them, it don't clean them without removing one shield at least..... to spray insitu does nothing but push dirt harder into the bearing.

Carb cleaner can not be used as a motor spray as it leaves a residue behind, like a little bit of lubing oil so when you spray it down the carb, it cleans and lubes as it goes.

The reason to get the non-chlorinated is so that it doesn't eat away at the plastics. Some brake clean is actually harmful to plastics.

Brand shouldn't really matter as long as you get the right stuff. It won't turn your chassis white either. AS long as you don't let it sit. Use it as sparsley as you can to get the job done. I find that short bursts are best. Other's will probably disagree though.

I must admit, I never spray bearings insitu so have never experienced it damaging plastic, although the stuff I use dows no harm to the plastic on the motor endbell.

As for the carb cleaner I soak bearings first in a sealed jar with carb cleaner then into an ultrasonic bearing bath for a few minutes, then blast it with brake cleaner, spin to release excess, oil up and re-install.
