I am running 3 gear in my 17.5 car. What type of track and compound of tires are you running?

We are medium to high bite clay. Gold or Clay compound tires. Slicks or Ghosted treads are usually the ticket. I started with Tebo 2017 Fastlane Setup with the V2 front towers since I bought them for the buggy.

Can someone give me an idea for gearing with a 10.5? I've been running a 13.5 with 29/76, so I'm guessing around 27/78? Am I in the ballpark?

Jeff, this is what I ran this past weekend. I tend to have a smooth driving style and I don't saw the wheel but rather turn it as much as I need to.

Can you explain what you are doing with the waterfall? You run the laydown tranny?

Thanks for the setup.

I think he is saying, he trimmed the nubs on the waterfall, it lets you move the battery back a few more mm’s

Correct, three gear laydown. Hairymuffin is correct in what I did.

Sorry for the delayed response. I only managed to get a single battery pack of practice laps in this weekend due to a full schedule but, overall, I'm impressed.

It's crazy how much technology has improved in the last 15-20 years of RC.

Some additional comments:

1. The stock tires were practically useless on the hard packed clay. I knew they would be bad, but the buggy was almost uncontrollable. I let a seasoned driver have a go and got the same feedback, the rear just kept stepping out. Based on the recommendation of folks at the track, I picked up a set of appropriate tires and the buggy was immediately more hooked up.

2. I had a dog bone pop out on a light crash. Not a big deal, just popped it back in and was off again.

3. I had one shock come apart and spill oil over the track. This was a good opportunity to check and refill the oil on all the other shocks to make sure they were toped up.

4. The buggy currently tends to nose dive a bit on jumps. I can correct this slightly with throttle inputs, but it still seems excessive. Need to tune this out. Any suggestions from the experts?

Overall it was a blast, though I have a long way to go before I can lay down consistent laps.

CHeck your ride height for nose diving. Set to 24mm f/r to start. Hard to say where to start with oils since I don’t know what pistons

Default 17.5

I run at “The Track” where the roar nats where hosted. I am running tebos setup and it’s very good. But I’m switching over to 17.5 stock racing so I have to make some weight changes. Would anything setup wise change because use I’m running 17.5 versus mid? So far the only piece I removed from his setup is the rear front brass block and put the aluminum one in its place to save weight.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Ben

Ben, I would start with .5 degree less toe and try a 3 gear transmission setup. I personally like the brass block with the 3 gear transmission in 17.5.

I use the 3-gear lay down with brass RF block in 17.5 too. I was able to save weight in other places to make up for it (Exotek eliminator, carbon composite parts, and Ti turnbuckles).

Thanks guys. I’ll start with the 3gear lay down and put the brass block back in. From there I will see where I can save weight. I am already using the JTP front and rear towers and battery strap.

Depending on the traction level and what tires I'm using, I gear between 30-32 with a 69t spur.
