I've just become very interested in the Avid clutch. How easy is it to switch between spur sizes with the Avid setup? I switch from 17.5 to Mod quite often.

This adds no value to the thread, but this 22 platform is the first that I can honestly say, may just pull me away from AE.

Since 92 I have only bought 2 non AE rc's, and regretted it. The build quality, components and thought that was put in to the 22 looks incredible - time to get off the soap box and hopefully will find someone to let me take one for a spin at the lhs.

not hard at all. Just as easy as the stock clutch

the kit comes with two spurs. they give two in kits and you can buy more bythemselves.

I still own a FTsc10 and I am faster with my 22sct. It suits me. I've nvr ran under 21 sec laps on our cuerrent track layout and I did it last night in only the second race with my 22sct.

BTW ask someone to let you drive thiers. I let poeple drive mine at the track.

raced my truck tonight at wc/rc and with the stock springs in the rear my truck kept wanting to over-rotate so I swapped to white rears from a 22T and the car felt way more locked in, I am still slow but the truck felt so much better. Now I will continue to make small changes and practice until I feel dialed with the truck

I am going to be running a Ballistic 8.5 and the recommended gearing looks to be 18/86. I have one of the Avid Triad slippers coming and my spur options are 81/84 or 87. So any suggestions with those spurs????

I would stick with the same pinion and the 87, it will be just a touch lower.

You need to take into account the Final Drive Ratio when comparing different spur/pinion combos.

To calculate the FDR the formula is:
spur# divided by pinion# = sum multiplied by trans ratio
(The trans ratio for the 22-SCT is 2.43)

The FDR of the 86/18 combo is 11.61

below are FDRs with 84 spur combos:

84/19 = 10.74 FDR
84/18 = 11.34 FDR
84/17 = 12.00 FDR

87 spur combos:

87/17 = 12.43
87/18 = 11.745
87/19 = 11.12

So, by looking at the above FDRs with the 84 spur, you can see that you will be above and below your target FDR of 11.61 with the 86/18 combo.

The higher the FDR # the more bottom end you will have....and more top end with a lower FDR.

You should be fine with the 84/18 combo. Check your temps often to make sure you don't overheat the motor. Try not to go higher than 160F to 165F max after 7min or however your longest main will be for. If temps are good and you feel you need more top end, move up to the 19 pinion. If you are running hot and or need more bottom end, go with the 87/18 combo.

I run an 86/18 combo with a Tekin 7.5 motor with 85% current limiting and temps were 155F after 15min+ of practice in my 22-SCT. Friend wouldn't give my truck back till the battery limit kicked in.

I dont understand your response. But I am going to race this thing for the first time today, and need to know how to adjust anti-squat on the mid motor. Can I use just the shims, or do I need to use both the shims and the blocks together for the mid-motor layout?

the avid 87 spur will rub the gear cover you have to use the 84

What front oil are you running. I run 32.5 front 27.5 rear and it adds a little push to keep the back end in place. Try heavier.
