Default Which motor for 1/8 e-buggy

I recently purchased a 1/8 e-buggy (Ofna ultra LX2-e) and I'm curious which motor would best suit it... I've got a bunch of 4S batteries right now, so I figured I would stick with 4S.

Not sure if I should run a 2250kV motor (which is what I have in my XXL, and it RIPS!) or if I should aim for something in a higher kV rating, like the 4000kV range, to get some more RPM's out of the 4S packs. What are your thoughts?

i run a tekin 2050kv on 4s and is more then enough. most guys run 1900kv motors on 4s.

I agree that the 4000 kv is going to cause nothing but trouble on 4s. The tekin t8 line is an excellent valu considering sensored 4 pole novak motors are almost 300 and you can find used tekins for $100 almost evry day on the sale forum. I use the 1700 kv but run on a smll track.

4s (14.8v) you'll want to be around 1800kv-2200kv max, any higher Kv and I would drop voltage. Typical 2s config is 4000kv. The tekin buggy motor several choices in that kv range but I would suggest the 1800-1900 range.

does any company even sell a 1/8th size motor with 4000 kv? because you obviously cant run a 1/10th scale in a 1/8 buggy...

Whats the difference in performance from the tekin 1900kv to the 2050? I know its a delta wind compared to a y wind but is it more power and less torque or what?

a 550 4-pole motor will work for 4x4 1/10 or 1/8 buggy with out issues. I have a losi scte RTR 2800kv motor on 3s lipo in one of my buggies... the thing RIPS So ya there are a few 550 4000kv motors out there (36mm x 60mm-80mm)

ive always wondered this. are the 550 can and the 1/8th scale motors the same diameter? like will a 550 4-pole mount in a 1/8 buggy just the same as a 1/8 motor would no modifications to the motor mounting plate?

any 550 will bolt up, 36mm fits fine in most 1/8 buggies, but the 1512 typical 1/8 buggy motor is the larger 40 to 42mm.

Keep in mind if it's not a 4-pole 550 it's not going to last..

1900Kv t8 in 4s, 1550kv in 5s or 1400kv in 6s (the ideal would be a 1250kv motor though)

More rpm out of the 2050kv and more torque from the 1900kv. I run on an outdoor 80x 180 track so i can use the rpm. But dont get me wrong 2050kv has more torque then you will ever need. Most people dial it down so they dont get so much wheel spin.

Perfect, thanks fellas. I wasn't sure which kV rating would be the best for me. I do currently have a Losi Xceleroin setup kicking around (1700kV motor) that would probably be ideal. I'll go that route first, and see how it all works out.

So a 1900 would be better then the 1700? More power and you can grow into it right?

Imo 1900kv is the best all around motor for 4s
