what esc motor combo to start with

I want to upgrade my slash 4x4 esc and motor. I want to end up with rx8 esc and pro4 4600 motor. I can only buy one at a time so my question is would i be better off running the pro4 with the vxl-3s or the Velineon 3500 with the rx8 esc?

You'll have to go the RX8 ESC first. The VXL-3s ESC can't handle 4-pole motors.
