Default Ceramic or tungsten carbide diff balls

Trying to remind myself which are the better for 1/10th off road?

I'm using 12 x 3/32 in the diffs.

I run ceramic diff ball's in my B44.1 and B4 because they are much more round and with flattened diff rings, the diff feels like butter.

In my experience, ceramics tend to be "too smooth". Had issues with diffs slipping because the balls didn't have enough friction to grip the rings.

For bearings, ceramics all the way.

For diff + thrust, I run Tungsten. They're lighter, and still super smooth.

I too had issues with diffs slipping with the ceramic balls at first. Tightened each diff by about 1/4 of a turn and no more slipping.

I think once ceramics break-in and you go a little over normal on the diff screw, they should be fine, but ceramics tend to take longer to get to that point as well.

It's hit/miss on ceramics. They're going to work or they won't in the diff.

I use ceramics in everything I have run and never had any bad luck.
They tend to last WAY longer and are more consistent! They cost a lil more but it's worth it... FYI: they can be found dirt cheap on ebay, but it takes some time to get them so order a bunch of them and your set!

Used full ceramics in my B4.1 and it ran great wih no slippage. In my current 210 I was trying to run full ceramics and no luck. It would slip and bark. I switched the main balls to the stock steel balls and it was spot on. I ordered some tungsten balls to try and keep ceramics in the thrust assembly. The 210 diff is so smooth that ceramics might not be needed.

it 100% depends on the car. Some cars the ceramic diff balls work great. On others, you can't run the diff tight enough to keep the diff from slipping. Here are the cars they work on, and the ones they don't:

Work:
B4
Cougar
XXX (i think)

Don't:
RB5
210
22 (i think)

My memory is a little hazy on the older cars i used to run... so take that for what it's worth.
