Choosing an ESC/Motor (1/10)
Hey folks. I'd like to pull together some of the collective knowledge from folks here to choose an esc/motor and then perhaps to create a guide for others once I have absorbed the knowledge.
For background, I'm coming back to the sport after having left it in the late 80s when the track was full of folks running golden arrows and similar toy cars alongside the rc10.
In that vein, I'm going to be building a 1/10 buggy soon, and am doing some of the research ahead of time to figure out what I'll want to put into it. I'm a hobby guy that wants to race, so I probably should stick to things allowed only in whatever is closest to the old "stock" class, rather than open modified, for the time being (I know there are additional timing/boost/whatever tricks that can be used in modified).
Now, I thought there were some basics (turns vs power, etc), but from reading the different threads around, it seems that manufacturer of both the motor and the esc make huge differences too. How does one step into this at the start to know that xxx from company yyy = www from company zzz?
Please no brand bashing or "just buy company X" type comments, as this is a more technical question than "feel and loyalty".
