Traxxas has the full diagrams and part numbers on their website. That should answer your question on the plate. I have said my piece on what I have in my MERV and what works. I have seen people put in as high as a 5700kv 540 and its pretty nuts (look at youtube).

The brushed version of the mini revo comes with a motor plate that will fit a 540 can so you will be fine , go ahead and buy it , the vxl version will have a smaller motor mount so do not buy that one and you are fine using the system you have now.

Well I had one back in the day... A VXL edition... Sold it cause I just didn't have time for it... It was modified and such... With this one I'll most likely put bigger tires on it to accommodate the power of the 1/10 system... If not then I'll post YouTube videos of it running next to my wifes car @ 70 on the highway.. Haha...
