Kyosho Nitro Brute. I got it for Christmas of 1991 (11 years old) and this this was just terrible. I loved it though. Crazy to think how much it was back then. I think between a couple of trips to the hobby shop and all the supplies to get it going (fuel, glow igniter, radio, ect) it was around $550. I'm not sure how accurate an inflation calculator is, but that equates to about $800.

I just sold it a few years ago

All though I got into r/c 20 years ago, I've only raced in 95/96 and just recently.

Your going to like this. But my first RC other than the cheap store stuff was a XTM Mammoth. I bought one and my friend bought one. I had nothing but problems with mine and my buddy didn't have any problems with his. We also both broke them in together at the same time during the same day.

Tamiya hot shot for christmas in 83 or 84 I think. Shortly after that I saved up and got a Tamiya Big Bear monster truck. I had just about as much fun building them and working on them as I did driving them. That was it for about 25 years. Last January Myself, my wife, and kids rode out to see if the track that my old neighbor col. Phil Hurd started 25 years ago was still there. It was there and a couple of guys were running there sc trucks. I now have 5 rc's and counting. What a great hobby!

My first R/C race car was an Associated 12e in 1978. It wasn't until 1980 that my Dad traded our race boat equipment for two Tamiya buggies, a Rough Rider and a Sand Scorcher, that got me hooked for life.

The MRP Pro-110 was my first RC car. My favorite car was and likely always will be the AYK Pro Radiant. Something about the chain drive and overall simplicity.

Kyosho sandmaster mk2! Got it when I was 6, saved my allowance for 6 months to buy it! It was the cheapest nitro I could buy from tower hobbies. I ran my dads old 80s jr airplane radio with it. I lived in a verrrry small town in wyoming so the closest hobby shop was 300 miles away so everytime I broke something I had to fill out the tower hobbies order form, have my mom write a check for it (remember this is wyoming and credit cards were taboo back then) then wait god knows how long for it to arrive. The local paper would always print the kids letters to santa every year and I was the only one that wanted a gallon of nitromethane for christmas! And guess what, I got it. My family still laughs at that one

Original Grasshopper in the early 80s. First real race car was the JRX2 in the early 90s. I miss the JRX2, the Grasshopper not so much.

Kyosho Pegasus followed by a Kyosho Rocky 4wd. I loved those cars! My friend had a Mauri Big Bear. We spent a lot of time jumping curbs and tearing up the yard!

For 5 years I asked for a 4x4 Monster Truck for Christmas and my birthday but never got one. When I went out on my own I finally decided to buy myself a hobby-grade RC. I got a XTM X-Cellerator nitro version in 2009, that thing almost pushed me right back out of the hobby but luckily I picked up an 1/8th scale Ofna buggy not to long after that and that buggy is what really hooked me on RC.

My first "real" RC was a JRX2 in the fall/winter of '88, before that it was some toys from radio shack. I still have the car, along with a fleet of others. Anything RC interests me, I may pick up a tank to play with in the house this winter.
