Default ESC has no reverse

Hi, I bought a tamiya plasma edge for my boy for Christmas. Well anyways his brother, I guess, drove it through a puddle of water. Well now the car wont go in reverse. I double checked the settings, and even the led blinks to indicate its in reverse mode. Is the esc done for or is there something wrong with the receiver?

ESC is most likely messed up. Reverse is handled by the motor driver H-Bridge, and if you puddle it, you most likely took out the transistors on the reverse side.

If you feel like taking it apart, you can look it over for corrosion from the water. Blast it off with brake cleaner (non chlorinated), and scrub the crap away with a stiff bristled plastic/natural brush, then let it dry and try again.

If you see blown up stuff, chuck it.

Water itself isn't conductive, it's all the extra crap dissolved in it that makes it conductive.

Puddles on the street, for a lot of us, have a surprising amount of salt in it (thank you, winter!), which makes for great conductivity. Nevermind the rest of the crap that falls off of people's cars, or exists in the asphalt/dirt/concerete.

But yeah, some ESC's are more sensitive then others, but that's largely a case design concern. Some cases naturally route water away from things that blow up. Some don't.

Traxxas, Venom, and HPI claim to make waterproof esc's for brushless motors. I don't own any of them, but you can research those companies and see if there is anything that works for you. This one may work for a brushed motor.
