Default everyones opinion on sc electronics

i was wondering a few things from people me and my son are getting ready to start racing a pair of sc10 4x4 my question is my son is 8 and i want a reliable smooth motor and esc combo that isn't gonna make him want to give up because he can't control the speed. any suggestions. also i like to have the best of the best i think i am going to put a tekin rx8 esc on mine but whats a great motor? what are your opinions on the reedy sonic short course? also what are the must have upgrade parts? to keep them reliable. any suggestions would be great my friends thanks>

I'm not sure if you've already bought the 4x4's, but a 4x4 short course is a lot to handle for most 8 year olds... or even a lot of adults for that matter. The rx8 is a great esc choice. If you're comfortable with the power, the tekin 4pole motors have been getting good reviews. To be honest, I don't know what the best choice for your son would be though.

How is the 2wd sc class? A 17.5 2wd short course will be controllable for a younger driver, and cheaper/less maintenance for you to be his sponsor/mechanic.

2wd 17.5 class would help him develop his driving skills, 4wd not so much.

However if he does run the 4wd tune out the power quite a bit, and the track should have a 12 and under class for him to run in.

Check out the Viper VTX10R

And the Viper VIPER VST-XL

Excellent products, and customer support.

I ran the RX8 for the longest time and had no problems at all. Viper stuff provides a lot smoother delivery though.

RX8 esc, and a Tekin 550 motor. Wether it be the Pro 4, or the SC4x, either will work. I ordered the 4.5 Tekin and RX8 for mine.

4wd is easier to drive which is why the experts run them so blazin fast which makes it a very hard class to compete in. If you son is going to run in a novice (run what you brung) class then he will be fine with the 4wd, just turn down the throttle epa to about 50% until he learns to control the thing. If he has to run with the "regular" pro 4 SC drivers, he will be frustrated as he will not be competitive and he will most likely be in the way and frustrate others.

The tekin RX8 with the 550 motors are the ticket.

You don't need expensive electeonics. I put an lrp sphere and novak 550 in my son's scte and it works fine. I just turn the epa down. You can find the motor and esc used for $50 each if u look around.

The SC10 4x4 is the most evil handling out of the box 4x4 ever made, it
requires major money and lots of time to even get them close to driveible
for average humans.

I would go Losi SCTE as it rocks out of the box, anyone can drive them
fast right out of the box, no extra money or time needed.

Tekin RX 8,Novak 4.5 4x4 motor and Hitec 7955 servo with radio of
choice... (reason for Novak motor is) you can change stator to a
5.5 for $40.00 instead of buying a whole new motor if he can't
handle the 4.5 turned down.

Enjoy what ever you choose to do"

As others have noted 4x4s can be a handful for beginners. We manufacture systems for both 2WD and 4x4s featuring our new Havoc Pro SC w/X-Drive or our GTB2 esc.

We also have factory RMF/new factory warranty versions of these items, if you are looking for a more affordable option. I invite you to PM me if you have any questions.

No matter how much time & money you throw at an SC10 4x4 a stock Losi
driven by the same driver will run circles around the SC10..

Don't waste your time or money, just get an SCTE and be done with it..

We just had a kid and Dad here throw thousands of dollars at 2 SC10's
and keep going slow. They just switched to SCTE's and their going fast
now and not spending any money on them. They went from C & D mains
to A mains over night straight out of the box with the same electrics in
the SCTE's they took out of their SC10's. They took a total azz whoopin
on selling the SC10's and Dad said it was worth every penny he lost on
the SC10's for all the smiles he and his son have now...
