Default Christmas Gift for 6 Year Old

Wanted to get my little nephew a RC car for Christmas for around $100. I saw the Losi 1/36 Mini and the Losi 1/18 Desert vehicles are in that price range. My main concern is durability as he's tough on his toys.

Also, Exceed has the 1/10 Truck and 1/10 Buggy for sale in the RTR version for $89.99. But havent seen much on these vehicles.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Try getting a used traxxas slash. I know those can take a hell of a beating, and in my book are one of the most durable trucks I know of. Plus, replacement parts will surely be found at your LHS.

How about the 1/18 ECX Smash truck. I think its the old Losi Mini T with a new body.

Certainly crossed my mind but felt a little tacky giving a used toy for Christmas.

I'll take a closer look.

Edit: not bad but they are all on back-order

For $119 you could have the Duratrax EXT2... I have one myself! One tuff little truck! Plus (HUGE SELLING POINT) - A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON ALL PARTS through Duratrax.. I modified mine so that it would have a little more "poop in the scoop"... But definitely something that is fun and RTR out of the box!

Although I have no suggestions, I highly recommend trying to stick with 1/10th scale for a 6 year old. He can do more things with it as opposed to a mini 1/18 scale type cars. Those small cars will flip over more often and is very limited on the type of terrain. 1/10 is more robust, plus Im sure a 6 year old would feel more pride with a 1/10th scale

Have a look at something like a HBX Bonzer. Got one for my nephew who's about that age and he enjoyed it.
You really want a 4WD monster truck as they'll have more fun with it (going more places) and it'll handle a lot better for someone who's going to go flat stack on the throttle.

I bought my 2 yr old a Wraith to learn on (figured it's crawler based so slow and should be tough), he hasn't gone near any rocks yet but it still manages to break every f... run. If I was doing this again I'd pick up a cheap corr truck and throw a silver can in it.

I was starting to think the same thing

Hadn't seen the Bronzer. Pretty cool.

Might be the best way to go.

Another vote for the Duratrax Evader EXT2. They will warranty all the plastics (and basically everything else) for 1 year, and the truck is pretty tough in my experience. Maybe buy a smaller pinion and gear it down for less speed until he's better at driving. Really hard to beat for the money though.

The electrix rc circuit or ruckus would also be decent. I just like the evader better personally.

/\ That is a sweet buggy... But nothing for a 6yr old... Heck, I'd like to have that thing!! I still say the best bet is the EXT2.. Call me bias because I own one... But if the truck could take what I throw at it, then I'm sure a 6yr old would be no issue...
