Questions?? Shock Oil and Cold Temps

Question - do you change your oil wt when the temps drop? Just thinking that oil viscosity slows down when temps drop, so shouldn't I drop my wt?

Yes, to figure what weight you should run, start at around 70-80 degrees (F) and drop an oil weight from what you usually run for every 15 degrees below that. Likewise, increase an oil weight for every 15 degrees above 70-80 degrees.

hm i never do that, i may try it when the indoor opens it should be around 65 degree heated at least compared to what i raced with last sunday in 40 degree weather


i have heard this but never really cared for it.

When you say an oil weight would that be going from 80 to 70 wt or 80 to 75? I am not sure what a weight is?

when changing oil weight due to any set up change it should be done in 2 1/2 increments. 5 is to much, my 2 cent....

Shock oils come in different weights which determine how thick they are. For example, a 27.5 shock oil is less thick and will give more rebound than a 32.5 shock oil. Let me try to explain my first post again.

Lets say your normal shock oil you run is 35.0 weight so.....

You run:

35 wt @ 80 degreees
32.5 wt @ 65 degrees
30 wt @ 50 degrees
27.5 wt @ 35 degrees

And

37.5 wt @ 95 degrees
40 wt @ 110 degrees

And so on and so forth
