Best 17.5 motor??
#31
That's odd- I was chatting with a Trinity team driver not too long ago and he said the new RevTechs pull harder off the bottom than the D3 does without losing much if anything on top.
FWIW, my D3 17.5 is ballistic on the 225x125 outdoor track I race at. A little soft on the bottom, but that's mostly cause I am willing to sacrifice that to get higher top end on the long straightaways. The D3 is by far my favorite 17.5 so far, and I've run x-11 and 12 LRPs, Orion ProStock, Tekin, and Novak 17.5s. If the RevTech is better than the D3 like I hear it is, it's gonna be one heck of a motor.

Revtech all the way!!!
There are many good motor brands on the market and most can win on any given day, but many also have chosen the Revtech motor as the motor to have. I personally have found the Revtech 17.5 to be an amazing motor as well as many others at the local track.
The main reason why people may feel that the Revtech has a little less bottom end then the D3 is because you can crank the timing up more on the Revtech at the end bell over the D3. When you do this you loose a little bottom end but pick up alot more top end. By adjusting your gear ratio you can compensate for this change.
If you are running blinky mode stock then get the HT rotor for it. If you are running timing advance in the speedo stick with the stock rotor when running 2wd buggy.
I am confident you would not be dissapointed in the D3 or the Revtech motor but I would put my money into the Revtech over the D3.

I have heard better than great things about the 17.5 version of the sonic and i won the 9.5 as a door prize a few weekends ago and its by far the most linear all the way through the powerband. long story short its not weaker on the low or top end its verymuch the same power on both

Indoor...
Regarding the D3 vs Revtech 17.5.... The D3 responds to timing advance VERY well and I think has an edge when running boosted stock, however we have been finding that the Revetch is very strong as well and really seems to shine in the non-boosted classes especially with the HT rotor.

Hey Jonny, look forward to racing with you and cush... got word that cush was weeling the heck out of a 4WD buggy the other day over in Pekin...

Yeah Cush has definitely been improving. There was some great action in both 4wd classes- we had a blast. Cush definitely earned it down there against some pretty fast guys. You race there often?

i have one.
so far ive had a trinity duo3, novak ballistic, and the reedy sonic, all with NT on speedo, only on endbell, all with same gearing (FT B4.1 69/32). heres how i would rate them, favorite at the top...
reedy - feels smoothest IMO, great/best bottom end, runs coolest even with maxed endbell timing (150s)
trinity - good motor, great all around, heat seems average, heat was pretty good, but got pretty hot (160+) with maxed timing
novak - seemed to have the best top end, but lacked bottom end, felt a little peaky, esp once u let it rev out on the straight, its probably faster than the top 2. seems to run hotter than the other 2, so i couldnt run max timing, nor did i have/want to change gearing to accommodate that.
im stickin with the reedy for now.
