Novac 13.5 with a Tekin RS ESC?
#2
Well, this is "opinion through experience only." The Novak 13.5 with the Tekin RS is a solid ESC/Motor combo for SC. It also depends on what class you're racing in, track surface, and size..That is, if you're racing at all. If you're racing in a mod class against 10.5s, 8.5s etc...etc...Just get a 10.5 with your Tekin RS set up. In my opinion a 13.5 even boosted, timed, or whatever, will not give you what you need to keep up with 10s and 8s that are ran by medium to highly skilled drivers...BUT, if you're an excellent driver, that is the exception ...But yes, performance-wise the 13.5 nov/Tekin RS combo works well. Its what I ran in stock sct class and will run in that class for some time...
True it may not keep up with gnarly mod motors but if driven smoothly it can keep up just as well if not be better due to having less power and not overpowering the truck. In fact there were 2 or 3 13.5's ran in the top 10 at our local big race in mod truck so it can be done!

Thanks both of you for your opinions, much appreciated. I think I'll use it for now, came with a blitz I bought, and not seeing a lot of power in it but it's able to keep up. I'm going to change out the stator to a 6.5t and save some money buying a new motor.

I hate novak products. We see more novak failures at our track then ANY other brand... actually, probably more than all the other brands put together. The tekin RS is a great speedo for running a 13.5 turn motor, but all of the current major brand motors will run just as good, or better, than the novak. My experience would point you towards either the Epic Duo3, or the LRP x12. Both are far better motors than the novak.

Agreed on the Trinity D3 motors. Nothin but good experience with them. The Tekin RS speaks for itself and is a great choice. From my experience, the Novak motors are pretty smooth but lack the low and mid range power of motors like the D3 and also Orion motors. I've run some X12 LRP motors also and found them to be very torquey and exceptionally strong through the mid range, but just short of the others on the top. If you get the LRP don't be alarmed if it runs hotter than you're used to- I've talked to team drivers and LRP reps and they all said 180-190 is just fine for them, and 200 wont hurt it either.
