Castle Creations Sidewinder questions
Hey guys I've learned that if you look around enough and properly you can get a quality item for a dirt price, and now it's my turn to do so. I have recently been looking at the Castle Creations motors: Castle Creations Sidewinder Sv2 1/10 12V Sport ESC/Motor Combo w/Neu-Castle 1406 (5700kV) and Castle Creations Sidewinder Sv2 1/10 12V Sport ESC/Motor Combo (7700kV). From what I understand the 7700kV is equal to a 5t to 7t brushless motor and I believe the 5700kV is equal to a 8t or 9t brushless motor. I'm planning to run the motor in my T4 with Losi Step Pin tires (big tread, really heavy tires definitely different mid air) and was wondering if I would have enough power out of the 5700. I usually would say "Bigger is better" especially considering they have the same price on Amainhobbies.com but I dont wanna get the 7700 and have it TOO fast for me. My experience has been under mainly a GT2 and a Losi LST2 but I do have drive time with Losi 8ights (buggies and truggies). Would I be able to just get the 7700 and restrict it when I don't need ALL of that power? I'm a little lost here and have been out of RC for a bit, can anyone help me out?

I also just saw a Novak 8.5t sensored brushless motor. It's only $10 more than the castle motors with the same things that I need, would that be better?

The Sidwinder is a good ESC, & it can be had for arround $45 seperately.
The newer 4 pole 1410 3800kv are awesome for bang for the buck.
They can be had for arround $65... Combo them & it is $102 (flea-bay)
Depending on the type of racing you do I personally tend to avoid Sensor-less setups.
I'm very fond of the MMPro & what it is capible of.
5700 is a lot of motor (not as smooth as the 4pole)
7700 is way too much & they run hot.

the castle 1406 5700kv motor is as smooth as the 3800, just not as torquey. I had a 1406 5700kv in my 10th scale 4wd E-truggy it was plenty fast 40+ mph and wheelies pretty much when ever punching it from less than 5 or 6 mph. I ran it on 2s lipo with a mamba monster esc and it was a great setup, I regret everyday i got rid of it

As a racer who is running that same truck, tires and motor/esc set up I would say go with the 4600 motor. I'm assuming your track is not the most grippy track considering you are running step pins. Our track is loose as well and the 5700 motor is too much for a light weight 2x4 ST. Go with the 4600, tune is with castle link and find a nice drivable medium. Also play with the slipper some to reduce the inital jerk you get from the little CC torque monsters!

ok so i should step down even more? Hm, and right now I don't have a track to race at, I know of a few just not sure when I can get there, my local track shut down to bad management multiple times

I have the Sidewinder with the 4 pole 3800kv motor and it's faster than
most of the other 2wd sct trucks at all three of the tracks I race at.
I bought the combo for 99.00 @ amain (now 139.00) and have had it for
6 months and if it dies I will buy another one tomorrow. The 3800 kv is really
a hot motor now with all of the 4wd trucks being put together now for racing.
It's has so much torque. It's a 540 can /1410 motor. Amain has it listed as a
550 but it's a 540 can.
