I would buy the Castle 1410 motor for sure- I have run a few different 550 sensored motors from the major brands and the 1410 has outperformed all of them, and it is very smooth for a sensorless motor. I use a speed passion esc in mine, but the HobbyWing mentioned earlier will do the same- HobbyWing manufactures Speed Passion stuff so the updated software will work with it.

And this

A rock solid setup for 1/10 4x4 sct for 140$... I have personally use this esc in many applications and it is awesome. It has nice programming ,ie timing and boost. There is a thread dedicated to this esc and there is also a thread dedicated to this motor.

Yep for sensorless seems pretty darned good. For sensored I would go with HW sensored with a decent motor from HW or any of the other branded offerings long cans.

With this set up, what pinions tooth count should I get off the bat?
I've seen a few motors of this spec suggested to me, but these sites are kinda iffy to me, have you ordered from them.*without just google'n the motor and looking at the "shopping" tab.

Is this typically the same as the one linked?
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html

They also have a combo with the SC8 here:
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html

Again these sites look so iffy, makes me want to just order from the fleabay and be done with it, or just get the CC SCT combo....

Again Thanks for all the help guys.

Really!!
How long do they usually take to ship?
I don't live in the Continental United States, shipping seems reasonable from Kershaw's.
Interesting and nice find!!

Okay a very nub question..
After reviewing a few 1/8th scale esc/motor combos a lot of them say good for 4s or what ever.
I know that 4s has a higher voltage, but if I want to run on 2s will I be handicapped in performance or is it all about gearing and stuff.
It's prolly more ideal to run on either a 3s or 4s eh?
So how does the 2s handle all this?
These systems are meant for 1/8th scale right?
Sorry, I am more of a nitro guy, I used to race my hopped up Nitro TC3 it was the shizzle.
Anyways thanks a lot.

Also, with the sc8 combo, what pinions should I get, like the number of teeth and stuff.

That site is legit.

As far as gearing goes, it entirly depends on what vehicle your gonna put it in...??????

I have only run the sc8 on a big 1/8 scale buggy. Did not get much time with it on my converted mt2 short course truck so cannot help with the pinions and all and should be posted int he losi forums for this truck. However, given similar weights to push, 4S setup will run at a higher voltage (heavier packs) but lower amps thus leading to lower temps and more consistent performance and increasing life of electronics. The 2S setup for the same application would need higher amperes (case in point, paid around 230$ shipped for a 2S lrp esc for 1/10 compared to the tekin rx8 which retails for lesser even though it handles more voltage... you essentially pay more for more amperes since FET costs skyrocket).

Also for club racing in the scte you can get by with a lower KV motor and a 3S setup or even a 4S but for the big races they will not allow it since its not ROAR approved. To solve that we have the longer can 1/10 scale motors which have higher KVs than their 1/8 scale counterparts specifically designed for short course applications (weigh close to 1/8 buggies but kinda forced to run on smaller lighter battery packs).

If your not ordering from the US of A they there are a lot of highly recommended ebay vendors from which to order from (even kershaw has an ebay store).

Well, hopefully the Losi guys will chime in here.

I would still reccomend getting the Xerun 150amp 1/8 esc or the 120amp 1/10 esc, so if you ever decide to go with a sensored motor, like the new tekin sensored 4pole, you wont have t buy another esc.

Why not the Mamba Max Pro SCT edition? It's very cheap compared to the Tekin, and comes with a Castle 1410 which is plenty enough for most SCTs.

And the ESC is the MMP, not the Sidewinder V2 (which is barely capable of pushing a 4WD SCT).

Edit: Woah, a Losi. Get a Xerun 150A and the motor you fancy. Preferably a Tekin 550 4.5-5.5. That thing is HEAVY.

hobbywing 120A XERUN: http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-c-xerun-120a-sd.html

tenshock SC401: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tenshock-Sho...item27bd53695a

88+65= $153

for the 4000kv version, i'd have 14-16T pinions on hand for your SCTE.
