How many cycles from a LiPo before performance degrades?

well, i just had a maxamp pack lose a cell after 17 cycles in my Vorza! not very happy about it. i did all the math, ran the buggy with an ampmeter several times to determine the peak amp pull before i bought the 2 packs.
The guy i talked to was pretty cool and i sent them back to him, ill have to see what they do about it. all i know is that i dont have any packs to run my buggy right now.
