Thanks for the info man! While I was building my diff for my new 22 the instructions were not explained very well. Your videos helped out alot. They had way more info in them then the manuals do.

I have a question. Are the thrust washers supposed to have deep grooves in them? I got some old Robinson Racing Diffs for my RS4 and the washers have very deep grooves in them but they look like they are meant to be there... I have rebuilt the diff using the same balls and sanded rings flat but it still feels gritty... So im wondering if it is the thrust washer groove or if I just need new balls.

Should I try flipping them over and just using the flat side for the thrust washers?

Thanks any help would be awesome.

If there are grooves in the washers they are worn and need flipped or replaced . Most likely you will need new diff and thrust balls as well .

Is that whats making my diff gritty?

Cool TY I will try flipping them over tomarrow and see if these balls still have some life in them

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a raceway in the washer that was supposed to be there.

Thanks again!

Great thread guys, I followed it up until getting the diff ready, but when I tried popping the throttle to set the slipper it kept slipping. Checked diff again and it had loosened up. Tried to tighten it, but turned it right down and it was still loose, are the balls gone?

I followed the whole process, but the first time I checked my slipper, my diff slipped instead, so I tightened it (the diff) down some more, checked it again and got the slipper to slip properly.

The diff only slipped the once, and it's not like it was full throttle or anything.

SO did I ruin my diff already or is it ok?

I have a question I have been told that when you put the diff in you want to be able to tighten from the spur side but I also have been told the other side?So which is correct?does it matter?I had mine on the non spur side and it was fine but I see in the video you do the spur side. Thanks in advance.

I would try and run with the diff for now...Most diff's will slip from time to time and I don't think it will be an issue for you...

According to the Associated manual, the screw for the diff should be on the same side as the spur gear...However, it souldn't make a differance if you put it in the other way...Most people just do it so they don't have to take off both rear tires when they want to make adjustments to their slipper and diff...
