Default Which motor for SC, Novak HV 4.5 or Novak 4.5 ballistic?

It's seems the 4.5 HV is cheaper, but I see folks are using them. I will be running outdoor on large 1/8th scale track.

The HV motors are the same as the Ballistic 550 motors except the Ballistic is totally rebuildable . I switched from an HV 4.5 too a Ballistic 550 4.5T and didnt see any increase in power or speed .

I'm running the older HV4.5 in my Slash 4X4 and it works fine. One reason is that I snagged one with the original 1/8" shaft so I don't have to buy different pinions. I know the 1/8" shafts had a tendency to snap off when used in 1/8th scales and monster trucks but I've never heard anyone complain about a Velineon 1/8" shaft snapping off in a Slash 4X4 so I figure I should be OK.

Spend a little more money and get the ballistic 4.5. I have the 4.5 hv and the sensor wire broke and is not replaceable except by novak, the ballistic has a customer replaceable sensor wire and the motor is rebuildable. Save yourself the headache and go Ballistic.

On the HV, the sensor wire is fixed in the motor? Do u have to run sensored on these motors?

You should consider the Fantom 550 motors also. Contact trackstarrc.com or Racecrafter on this site for price. There are great reviews on this site too.

I have both the HV and Ballistic... Both are good, both are the same minus you can rebuild the Ballistic. Compared to the Speed Passion 4.5 V10 it's slow, but smoother. And the Fantom Fusions are also nice the only difference is it's a 3mm shaft vs. a 5mm shaft.

You have to use a sensored motor with a Novak speed control but you do not have to have a sensored controller to run a high-KV Novak motor (like the HV4.5). I have run a Novak 8.5 (540 size, 5800KV) motor on a Castle Sidewinder (sensorless controller) and it ran good.

I too am running a novak havok 10.5t in my sc10 on a cheap china sensorless ESC. It runs fine. With that said I am going to be getting a ballistic 10.5t for my slash which will be ran on a sensorless esc. The reason im going with the ballistic this time is it does not cost that much more than a havok but is completely rebuildable.

I'm not sure if the havok is able to have the stator changed out to a different wind count like the ballistic is either.
