I would get the lower kv since its buggy. Higher kv can puch more with more power lower the slower. But think about it the less the motor turn or slower the more battery and temps are ganna be better.

Is it a D8 or a D8t? I am running a 2250 in my D8t and it runs good. If D8 then the lower as said above.

It looks like you are talking D8T....

use this:

http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html

since you already have a vehicle, figure out what you top speed is you are using with the gearing that works. You can then translate that into what you need to do for your D8T for similar speed wise performance on the track. It will at least give you a starting point.

Since you are going to run a clutch setup, Keep in mind you need to have a high enough Kv on the motor so that your clutch bell selections are possible, especially if you are doing 4S. I think the largest I have seen is a 22T from Axial.

If you plan on running 15 minute mains or longer, I would go with a 5s or 6s setup. 5s with a 1550kv motor OR 6s with a 1550/1350 kv motor. If you are running the clutch, you just need to make sure you can get the gearing you want to hit 35-40mph.

if you have to go with 4S (ROAR rules), go for a battery as close to 6000mah as possible. Back when I did my RC8T conversion, a 6000mah battery pack pretty much guarenteed 15 minutes of runtime regardless of the conditions I ran in including extreme cold temps with very low traction.
