Novak 4.5 vs Castle 4 pole 3800
#31
I still have a soft spot for the 550's, they have been great in the 4wd SC's.
I respect everyone's opinion and see it from both sides.

I saw this weekend first hand a 4.5 Novak and a 4 pole 3800 in a buddies
SCTE.
The 3800 is hands down faster because you can push the gear & see no
increase in heat.
The problem was it never got hot,the RX8 never got hot but the battery
got so hot it puffed the pack.
Something always has to give somewhere, everything in all racing is a
trade off. The trick is to find a good safe balance with all motor/ESC/
batteries so nothing is over heating.
He offered to let me run his 3800 4 pole in my SCTE, but I declined due to
I like my battery packs to much...LOL"
My Novak runs fast enough to win my share of races and my batteries/ESC
& motor never get real hot.
When I started racing karts at 4 years old my Dad who was a late model
stock racer kept druming into me (everything is a trade off, always
remember that") and he's been right through my Kart racing,Stock car
racing, drag racing, motorcycle road racing and then R/C racing.... The
trick is to find the trade off you are comfortible with, it doesn't matter
what anyone else's is....

I'm very confused about the kv rating. You would think that at the same pinion a 5000kv motor would move the truck noticeably faster that a 3800kv motor but in every test I've done it does not.
It's basically like the two motors are equal except like other say the Castle runs much cooler. I don't get it but I may stick the Castle back in my truck for good and put the Novak on Ebay.

I believe it. My 3800 has run much cooler than my Novak so far. I'm compelled to up the gearing on the Novak to see what difference it makes since my ESC has been running cool.

Your comparing apples to oranges. A 5000 kv 2 pole 550 can motor to a
3800 kv 4 pole 540 can motor are in no way even close to the same
animal...
Just enjoy the one you like the most for you and your driving style, what
makes you happy is way more important then comparing numbers that do
not really matter...

Got the sct system installed in my truck yesterday and went out with it today and I am very impressed with it so far. Have it geared 14/54 with no heat issues and lots of TORQUE!!! If you are trying to decide between the novak 4.5 and the castle 3800 I would go with the castle anyday! It is so smooth, almost seems like its sensored!

I'm starting to realize that having ran the 4.5T for some time now. I'm disappointed with it having paid $120 for just the motor alone. I'm glad I hung on to my Castle 3800kv.
I was running 14/54 on it and it was extremely cool. What gearing would you suggest for a Slash 4x4 with an MMP?

I've been curious about the 1410 as well.. I'm currently running an MMP with Novak 4.5 in a Hyper 10 - I also have the 14mm rotor installed. Geared 17T/42 and it comes off the track (1/8 scale) at around 140-150 after pretty much any time limit.
I used to have the regular rotor in and geared 2 teeth lower and it seemed to come off a little warmer. It seems now my temps dont really fluctuate as much with harder driving, different tracks, runtime, etc. It pretty much gets up to 150ish and stays there.
Anyone directly compare this to a 4.5 with the 14mm rotor?
Novak says that with the 14mm, the Kv is 3850 - pretty much the same as the 1410. If the 1410 can preform as well in a smaller (lighter) package, it might be worth looking into.... Especially if it can lug around that SCTE

The 1410 will beat it in power and efficiency every time. I ran mine for the first time yesterday and I will be selling my Novaks. Using a higher end esc on that non sensored motor was no problem. I really thought that the motor would be laggy or cog some.. I couldn't be farther from the truth.. With an RX8 it is butter smooth.

Yep, I have two 550 Novaks. One had the sensor die but fortunately I can buy a new one for $14. Then they both go up for sale. I liked the Novak 550's but I LOVE the CC 1410. I've bought three, just so I can put one in my son's car and have one for a backup.

1410 is a little beast!! I need to get some more 2s lipos as I sold them all lol. I run 3s on my castle 1512 2650 and my Tekin 2650 which is perfect. But on the 3800 51 MPH on a 15 tooth pinion is way too much( Losi SCTE). Lots of torque lots of speed, a little extra drag as the 4 pole motors have more "natural" break than 2 pole mores kinda like having a drag break set on 10 or 20% IMO. That's my only complaint about the 1410 is the tiny bit of drag. But thats just nit picking at this point.

And yes the shaft is 3mm, I bought the 3mm reducer shaft from nitrohouse for cheap, they have 2 diff ones one says it comes with two reducers and one comes with one reducer in the pack, I bought the single pack as it as a few bucks cheaper and they sent me the 2 pack so it was a good deal. Works good, only issue I had with the reducer was my set screw is a bit short and I had to really crank down to get it to hold, might need to get a longer set screw or something in the future.
