Anyone spun a rotor on the shaft on a Novak 550 motor? (magnets spining, shaft not)
#16
Was testing the 14mm tuning rotor at WCRC last night, and had the shaft and magnet debond. I removed the rotor and the shaft came clean out. It was a brand new rotor that I was testing in my Losi SCTE.
I've been using the standard rotor in my Ballistic 4.5 550 for over a season without any problems. The first issue I had with this motor was when testing the new 14mm tuning rotor.
For those wondering, I was geared between 18-19t with the 14mm rotor. Temps with the 19t were around 165. Temps with the 18t were 150.

The magnet coming loose from the shaft is not a common occurrence; if your motor is new, under warranty, contact customer service for a replacement.
You can always contact [email protected] for assistance or tips to minimize rotor damage.

I'm a racer, I don't check on warranty, I race & anything that breaks I fix or
replace it. This motor is less then two months old so you would know more
about if it's under warranty then me
Like I said in my first post, I'm not bashing Novak in any way, I'm a racer &
I know $h!t happens with anything sometimes. I'm wanting to know how
much of this is going on and how people are dealing with it?
Thanks for your post, but it's a pretty shallow, blanket answer to what
happened to my motor & others on here..
I ordered a Novak rotor to fix this motor and a new Tekin 4.5 motor as well,
so like I said: I'm a racer and I have it handled the way a racer handles it.
Now if you want to send me a rotor ("GREAT") I'll take it with a smile and
tell other racers how great Novak was about this rotor problem. If you do
not choose to send me a rotor (thats cool) I just won't say anything to
other racers because like I said: this is racing & $h!t happens even to
good race products...
Thanks again for your input....

never had this happen to a Novak. But I have had 3 traxxas motors come apart.

from some guys that had many rotors come loose on Novaks and when
they got them fixed under warranty they just did it again. So they took it
in their own hands with this fix. They never had a rotor ever come loose
again. When I did this mine has never come loose again even when way
over geared and run very hot.
Hope this helps" ENJOY"

Thank-you Novaktwo for all the help seem's novak is gonna replce the rotor for me i also use novak 10.5 in my losi 22 but that motor is one the best motor's i have ever had i have never blown a motor or came of a track hot this is why it puzzled me and my wife. Been racing for a few yr's now and that 10.5 is a few yrs old it self and still running strong!

I have 3 550s here that have had the rotors de-bond. One is mine and the other two are friends that want me to check them out. I've been very succesfull using gorilla glue to bond them back together. JB weld does not work, it has metal in it and the magnet just sucks the material out.

I checked with Engineering for the proper adhesive to use for the shaft and magnet and was told that we use Loctite 325.

One note of caution: If you use Permatex Sleeve Retainer to fix rotors, work quickly. This stuff can cure instantly if you have it in a tight press fit (a tight enough fit that you have to use something other than you hands to mate the two pieces together). I destroyed a rotor by not knowing this. The magnet is about half way to where it should be and even a hammer can't make it move!
