Smoothest 10.5 motor for 2wd buggy?
#31
Why not pair the Award Winning RS with an Award Winning Redline 10.5 and have the complete package? We didn't win Reader's Choice for both ESC and motor for no reason this year. Clearly we have done our job in both departments.

I currently run a 7.5 in mod buggy and it's just a silly amount of motor. I'm going to pick up a 9.5 at some point and report my findings.

Since this is a discussion about the smoothest motors and not the most powerful, I have to say that the Novak Ballistic motors are the smoothest that I have used. As far as power, I really like the Trinity Nemesis and find them to be my favorite. However, that being said, I use a Ballistic 17.5 in my stock spec buggy. Honestly, when your using a good speed control, I find it hard to really differentiate between the top brands of motors. I currently use Tekin, Speed Passion, Novak, and Trinity and they are all very good. The Speed Passion and Novak motors do feel a little "softer" with a non boosting esc but they also have a smoother, more linear feel. Just my $.02.

I run a Speed passion ultra sportsman in my B4 with a Tekin RS. It seems to have a good balance of low end smoothness and top end speed.
This motor has fixed timing but only costs about $45.
I have had good luck with it.

I've only tried one 10.5 and it had a sudden burst of torque about half way through the powerband. I'm not sure if it was the motor, or the speedo (Tekin), but it was always run in the stock profile.

I would recommend a Murfdogg Synergy Motor, www.murfdogg.com and check out user feedback on the RCTech thread. I've used/tested most all of the top brand name motors and they are all good, but I chose Murfdogg after on track comparisons. You wouldn't be dissapointed especially coupled to a Tekin ESC!
+1 Matt, thanks for the outstanding power plants that produce smooth incredible power everytime!!!

Spec motors require a certain gauge wire, among other things that I don't know off hand. Mod motors can be wound with whatever a manufacturer wants, example: one man. might wind their 7.5 with 1 strand of X gauge wire while another might wind their 7.5 with 3 strands (in parallel)of Y gauge wire. Both are 7.5 motors but they take 2 different paths to get there..Octo wind LRP motors come to mind, they're still the same turns as their other motors but the windings are different.
