Get a sensored motor and speedo.... will be the way to go.

well with sensored you will get much better throttle control. Sensorless for me seems to have a deadband and feels like an on off switch. Reliability wise sensorless seems to be a bit more then sensored setups.

Depends on what you want to use it for. I club race and do very well.

I run a senorless HW ESC and a Trinity D3 motor, and it as smooth as butter.

the new 4 pole sensorless motors are suppose to feel pretty good

If you plan to race this motor, check with the track before you purchase. Most tracks require sensored motors and they generally specify which wind 13.5, 17.5, etc.

I have had a two pole sensorless motor setup (traxxas vxl) , four pole sensorless motor (new castle 3800 sct system), and novak sensored motors. The sensorless motors def. make more power but the two pole sensorless motor setup was more of an on off switch but the four pole is just as smooth as the sensored setup. Most sensorless setups also run cooler compared to sensored ( of course this is drasticly effected by your gearing ).
If it were me I would buy a sensored setup for my son so he could get used to it while racing and then move up to a faster sensorless motor when they are ready to move up to a mod class.
