Default Review Losi ten-scte week 1

Summary:

Just some notes on week 1 on the track with the new losi scte.

Car is just plain awesome; first night, puttering around, barley trying and it placed in the A main out of 30 cars.

Track:
Indoor stadium carpet; super high traction

Motor:
Had to upgrade to a 550 can; went with the trinity 6.5. WARNING: if you buy the 6.5 you NEED to run 3 cell lipo (the mamba 550 requires 3s as well). The 4.5T is fast enough on 2 cells. The 550 can 6.5T felt like 19 turn brushed motor.

Speed controller:
Mamba Max Pro (this thing is a tank)

Battery:
Running 3s lipos 30C 5000mah (approx 20 mins runtime)
Tried a 4s lipo (wayyyy to fast); could not gear correctly (11T pinion).

Servo:
Avox (super fast and cheap!); futuba spline

Gearing:
14T pinion (still to much gear on a LARGE carpet track)

Temps:
150 on motor Can after 20 mins of hard bashing
115 on speed controller

Tuning:
Layed the shocks down to get rid of traction roll

notes:
1. radio box is a pain; need to redesign the cotter pin system
2. Servo horn broke the on the first lap; replaced with aluminium upgrade
3. Servo saver loosens up on first night; take apart and dab with superglue to lock in.
4. 550 motors + 32 pitch gears + shaft diameters can cause issues; be sure you have this ironed out before race night. 32 pitch gears require an adapter to use with 540 cans.
5. Stock tires were horrible for high traction tracks; 0 sidewall strength caused either traction roll or spins outs due to sidewall folding over on turns.
6. The bulkhead for motor mount is somewhat annoying. First you need to super locktite the screws (although the heat from the motor makes this less effective) Then I had issues with one of the flatheads not allowing the motor to slide in; had to sand down. Once set; the system works nicely; allowing gear changes on the fly.

Nice review , except that the Ten SCTE uses Mod 1 gears , not 32p .

Bummer ! I can tell you that the Castle Mod 1 pinions are a perfect fit and allow for total contact with the spur gear . Some other pinions have too long of a shank and hang off the spur gear .
