Default HELP! If my tems are high on my motor, would i need to go up turns or down turns?

I've heard from someone that if your motor temps hotter than you want, you can keep the same gearing and go UP on motor turns (more torque maybe)... Is this correct?

Yeah try the gearing

Hot motor= overgeared
Hot ESC= undergeared

(this means you need to gear down. start by dropping 2 teeth on your pinion)

Default Post your setup

If you can share with us what car/truck you are working with as well as motor and battery, we would be able to help you with a starting point on gearing.

I have had this issue the past month or two...
Run a 6 minute heat motor comes off at 160... go down one tooth (21)...
Next heat motor comes of at 180... wtf? go up 2 teeth (23)...
Next heat motor comes off at 180... wtf?
Go back to original pinion (22) and its still 160 so that where it stays...
All scenarios the esc stays around 90 degrees... I am lost at a solution so I guess I just run it hot (160)?

Kyosho RT5 22/76
Losi Xcelorin 13.5/ GTB ESC - factory profiles
smooth indoor HIGH traction clay track

This same setup has melted down a NEW murfdogg 13.5 in a week and 2 Ballistic 13.5's so far this year... Nothing is binding, new bearings throughout rear end... Runs like a freak but motors arent cheap! ESPECIALLY the murfdogg...

Im not really new... racing for 5 years but it's been nitro. Now as for my setup
Hyper 10SC
Turnigy 5200 2S lipo
Comes with an 11 tooth mod 1 pinion
just for something to show the folks this weekend, im either puttin a 8 turn, 21 turn, or 27 tun brushed in it. Since i wont be able to get gears or my brushless until after the weekend, which motor should i run? And whats really gonna be put in it afterwards is a 5700kv brushless from dynamite.

I'd run the 8t in a 4wd, and NOT a 5700kv motor.

Change the driving style/setup or change the motor....
is it a 13.5 spec class?

I could melt down 17.5's all day,
Get 13.5's hot
I run 10.5 cool all year.
My 8.5's come off cold.

If it is an open class it is safer to run a little more than you need & under gear it a touch & turn it down too...

I would do the 8. It will probably still get hot. The brushed motors just dont have what it takes to push these trucks.

Dont get the dynamite system, you will burn it up in a week. If you cant afford a 550 or a good 540 setup get the Castle Sidewinder SC. Its cheap and has plenty of power for that truck.

how are you setting your gear mesh?

what kind of timing are you running on the motors?

what kind of solder are you using to the motor wire tabs as well as what kind of iron are you using (pics of your soldering job would help).

Here stock class is 13.5 since the track owner said 17.5 was just too slow!
So I'm stuck with the 13.5...
I'm running 0 boost (old gtb) losi motors are not adjustable timing wise, have a hakko iron, plenty of solder (use miniatronics 60/40 solder)

Btw the 2 ballistics lasted a day apiece and came off around 260, no saving that thing!
