gearing? 17.5 novak and tekin rs
I have a novak ss17.5 and a tekin rs, i usually run mod but am thinking of trying a 17.5 boosted for a race coming up. What settings and gearing would you use, this is for the shortcourse shootout at crcrc in columbus this weekend

It depends on the size of the track.
Do you have hotwire?
Usually you want to run 1-3 teeth less on the pinion when you start to throw boost and such at a motor. Maybe even more depending on the class and how hot you want to boost it. For a large open track dont be afraid of 2nd gear, lol i mean turbo! I usually run about 10 on that, anywhere from 0-.20 delay and 1 on ramping. And this is if im able to use turbo, been running indoors lately.
Personally im running 3 teeth less than i was nonboosted. running 40-50 boost in the 5-20k range in SCT. Still running no boost in buggy.
You may have different settings, im not sure how the can timing is on the SS motors.
First thing to check is motor temps, and check often with new settings!

Yeah I run an sc10, and a blitz ese. It is a larger indoor high traction track. I heard of issues with the tekin novak mix, I was hoping that someone that was running one was on here to chime it. I don't think I will make it to that race anyhow so I will be running my 8.5 lrp up at the factory on sunday

I have a Ballistic 17.5 that i have run with my RS. My other motors are Epic D3's
The D3 responds much better to the boost, turbo, etc.
It seems the key with the Ballistic motor is to turn the timing down on the can and do the best you can with the boost without overheating it.

I'm currently running a novak 13.5ss in my sc10 along with a tekin rs. Can't remember my gearing just now, but I'm running boost of 40, and it runs great. We have a medium size track, and after a 6 min race the motor temp is around 145F. I used a 10.5 ss before with pretty much the same timing profile, and didn't have any problems with it.

Like 5443-20016 i think it comes up as in hotwire. Just in case anyone unsure, set the high end, hit calc. Then there is like a drop down menu and pick the one in the 5k range.
Last run i ran an oddball 41 on boost. Usually im in the 40-45 range.
Running on a small indoor clay track, very tight. 78/23. No need for turbo in there lol.
Oh this was SC10 on a 17.5 Trinity/Epic D3.

For me, 5000 - 20000 rpm range made the midrange a bit "soft". Not sure how to explain it, but if I let go of the throttle at the end of the straight, and then get back on the throttle after the truck has slowed a bit, it just felt like the truck had no balls. So I'm running a pretty aggressive setup. My setup is as follows:
Gearing - 81 spur / 23 pinion
Boost - 40 with start rpm of 4812 and end of 13503
No turbo. On our low traction track the turbo would cause truck to loose traction every now and again.

i have had much success with the ss motors and all of novaks stuff for that fact..I live very close to them and like to support local companies. I did have one gen.2 13.5 bal. burn up on me on the 3rd 5 minute run.
