The rx8 is one of the most robust Esc's i ran in 4x4 sc. Loved mine in my Hyper.
I wont deny its a very robust ESC and may even be better for the application, but its pretty hard to argue its size when compared to a RS or RS Pro. The footprint alone is considerably larger.

Theres no doubt! its hands down the best ESC for anything 1/8 scale but he wants to put this in an SC10 4x4 which looks like it might be a little cramped for electronics.

Agreed! Our entire team switched out from MMP's to RX8's after they saw mine worry free, no cap, no external BEC just smooth cool running.

Another option for the 550's is the Viper VTrax10R which I have been testing the past few weeks. It works awesome, no BEC issues, no cog and no heat problems. It will also run up to 4S and is about the same size as the Tekin RS Pro. But you don't need a fan or BEC. Comes with a program card with WAY more options than hotwire or Castle link. No on/off switch to fail, it's a push button. And to access the pro gauge you plug into the port on the on/off button. No need to unplug or dig out your receiver.

Here's how I fit my RX8 ESC into my Slash 4X4. I just placed the receiver in the front and life is good. I use the stock tires for on-road racing (with wooden jumps) and calibers for off-road racing.

That's what I have now and I'm loving it. Check my previous post (#36).

Did you look how much room that LRP has? you can easily fit an RX8.

Now Novaks ballistic 550 however may not fit. i think.
