I have been wondering about trying a castle 2400 kV motor just to try out 3s since I want to buy a few new batteries and give my son some of my old ones. My question is I have a castle 3800 motor and am pretty pleased with it but always wondered how 3s would work.

Do they run cooler ? Is it easier on batteries and motors?
Will it break the truck more due to the extra tq and weight?
Basically has anyone ran both and which do you like and why?

I don't race much mostly just at my home track so for the hand full of times I would go race I could switch out motor?
Thanks

The RTR 2800kv motor is a castle made motor that is a pure beast on 3s! If you dont have one you can pick one up cheap on fleaBay! If your looking for just some big dumb stupid power get a tekin pro4 4300 hd, its more then the truck can hold onto without breaking drive shafts! I've had to replace several due to landing hard on power with this setup.

I'm not looking for crazy power I'm pretty happy with the castle 3800 on 2s in my truck, I was just wondering if the 3s and lower kV motor would he a better choice for a guy that is not a hard core racer.

I'm not looking to break the truck the setup I have now seems to not ever break the truck and I really like that.

Most likely you'll have overheating issues running 3s with the castle 3800.

I have been running the 2400 Castle motor on 3S for racing for 2 season now (my club has open battery rule).

My motor definitely runs cooler than most other guys who run 2S. I can run a 6500 mAHr SMC 3s pack for about 20 minutes straight without overheating the motor. Some guys on 2S have a hard time making 10 minutes with a 6500 2S pack, so you can see my amp draw is much less.

I have not had any breakage because of the additional weight or torque of the Castle 2400 on 3S.

I have never run the Castle 3800 in an SCTE, but I have another SCTE with a Hobbywing 4000KV motor that I run where 2S is required. I feel the 2400 has more punch, but when I run my 2S car with my buddy who also had the Castle 2400 on 3S they are pretty much the same down the straitaway.

I've been running the 2400 geared 14:40 but with our new layout, I am going to need a 15. I expect it to run warmer but still be fine temp wise. The 2400 castle runs significantly cooler (and a little slower) than the 2800 Losi motor with the same gearing.

BTW, the 3S system is not necessarily more powerful than the 2S systems. Here is is post I wrote comparing power consumption of my truck with another driver who ran a Tekin 4600 Pro4 motor in a SCTE in the same race on the same track, same day:

One thing I find incredibly interesting is all the guys on the MIP Pro8 thread (which is essentially a SCTE with 1/8th buggy wheels and a wing) waxing poetic about 3S and 4S systems and how great they are, when the guys that run the same truck without the wing and the 1/8 buggy tires insist that only 2S should be used.

I agree on the efficiency of higher voltage. Seems to be proven over and over. The 3800 Castle on 3s is plenty fast. If it was legal I would race 4s in my SCTE rig as well.

On the Pro8 the extra power can be controlled so much more than the SCTE in my personal test. Comments like, "It never ran that fast as a truck" are spot on. Even on 2s the Pro8 handles so much better. Still love my truck though so I have both.

Tires are a lot lighter and getting rid of the .5lb non aero dynamic body all help.

One of my LHS's had the rod ends and HA balls today, So i grabbed them and i gotta say man what a difference! Its incredible the truck feels amazing!

Hopefully these last awhile, 30 some odd bucks is alot if i have to keep doing it over and over.

Tomorrow hopefully ill get my shocks rebuilt and find the HD diff cases so i can rebuild the diffs and wednesday my Tekin RX8 replacement case should be here so i can see how the truck does under power!

I spoke to rep at A Main who said he had his hands on them and looks like they will fit. No garantee just and observation.. They are priced right, so worth trying it.
