Airtronics XL-2P

for my one of my nitro-powered trucks, i have an Airtronics XL-2P (its an older radio) that has some slick features. but i dont have a receiver for it. to add to the complication, it seems that it has an embedded crystal on the controller (could i take it out?). subject of the matter is, can i use this conrtoller for any Airtronics receiver (as long as they have the same crystals)?

i used to have 3 of these radios. the crystal should not be imbedded, it should be right there for you to pull out like any other radio, its right on the front of the radio. and you can in fact use any airtronics compatable brand reciever so long as you use the proper crystal for it. i would use airtronics brand crystals to lessen the chance of glitching. for an older radio its nice since it has end-point adjustments and it may even have dual rate streering and brake trim iirc (the knobs on top i think)

if you use a diffrent receiver be sure to check your servo and battery/speedcontroler the older airtronics/swana servos are wired different than the new z type connector.

i need not worry about speed controllers cos this control will go onto my Monster truck, an OFNA Pirate

actually it's not embedded it's just behind a plate thats glued on. just pop the plate off and you can access the crystal without taking the radio face apart. as for receivers don't forget that it is a AM radio so FM receivers and crystals won't work. I own 2 AM 75 band and one AM 27 band xl-2p and still use the 27band for my nitro rc10gt. of course I have 2 cs-2p and a M8 also which are FM . just never got around to selling the rest.
