Leopard 1/10 Scale Brushless System Combo
 

Anybody ever used one, or currently own one? Will this work with my Evader EXT? http://www.nitrorcx.com/26p-blcombo-60a-9r-4370kv.html

I dont own one, but Ive read a few forums and Ive seen Youtube videos and people seem generally happy with them.I would run Ezrun 60A & Tacon 3650(non-finned motor) this set up is more reliable and much faster

I'm with RCaddict, I run the Ezrun 60a ESC and Tacon 3560 series in my beater Slash and it's been wonderful. I've ran it for the past year and haven't had the first problem and in that same time frame I've burned out several of the "name brand" motors and ESC's.

As for the Leopard system, they've actually been around for quite some time. Leopard used to make ESC's and motors for other companies but here recently they starting selling them under their own name. I know quite a few people running Leopard motors in their 1/8 buggies and have had great results.

I checked out Ebay on those 2 types of combos and nothing came up for Tacon and the EZrun came up but the only one that wasn't in hong kong was $200! They have them cheap in china but waiting 20 days to receive something seems a bit excessive.

Heres the Tacons http://www.hobbypartz.com/mofor1ofbu.html and notice theres no fins on the can. These are real 540 motors(way more speed and torque) "finned" motors are actually smaller 380 motors in finned cans to size them up to 540 size. The finned Ezrun combos are 35A cont. 190A peak. They will run a 1/10 good but nothing compared to what were recommending. Ive owned several Tacons and Ezrun 60a and there as good if not actuallybetter than namebrand. They honestly run cooler, smoother and Ive never seen on fail. I can say Ive had one for almost a year, sold it and my neighbor has abused the set up and its still running very hard
Eacons and Ezruns are two differnt companys. Hobbywing makes Ezrun and they have been around along time and are very reliable. Ezrun sells a similar combo as I mentioned there on the site Ive linked you to. If I was to buy a combo outta the two(Leapord or Ezrun 35A combo) I would buy Ezrun. But the EZ 60 and Tacon 3650 is the same price, but twice as strong and reliable. For $6 you can get a LCD programming card aswell!

What's the difference between these 2 motors? Besides the obvious numerical sequence.^^

One is 4420kV and the other is 5900kV. I run the 4420 and the 3500 because they seem to run cooler and they can run 3s without a hitch.

I agree, 5900kv is way too high. I always bought the 3930kv. You always wanna stick with a lower KV rating and gear it for more speed. I think the 4400 would be a good motor for good speed on 2s or 7.2v nimh

I just found the stock motor the Evader EXT package comes with. Now all I need to do is get the ESC. Can I use This battery pack with any ESC, or will I burn some out?

You went woyh a brushed Photon motor over brushless?:eek: WHY? Brushed motors are slower, less efficiant(shorter run times), and wear out over time and the motors your refering to can't be cleaned and rebuilt. I hope you did'nt pay more than $5-$10 for it. Seeing as you can buy a brushless motor for $20 now adays. If you dont have an ESC and stop while your ahead and don't waste your cash on brushed

I have 3 of the Leopard systems. These guys are not leading you in the wrong directions. The motors with this system are where they decided to save money. I tested the first one and killed the motor at 160dg. Turned around and did the same with the second one at 160 dg. The third one I have set up to run in the 145dg area in my sons Slash. Its still going strong to this day. There are alot of people that have the same problems with the motor as my self when getting the temps up in the 160 range. This is when the motor starts to shine unfortunately it can't handle it.

The ESC on the other hand has been rock solid. I paired them with Tacon 540 2950KV motors, and run 2s and 3s for as long as I want with no heating issues on the motor or esc.

If you get this system its fine kept under 160 dg. One dg over and get ready to order a new motor. When that happens get a true 540 Tacon and you will be set. Or get the EZ run and Tacon, and save your self the trouble.

+1 for tacon!! Just got my 4420kv on my rusty (opps its a pede now) with the mmp esc and on 3s its a missile. My buddy got a ztw 80a esc with the programmer card for under $60 shipped to his door off ebay. Its been in his emaxx with a hobbywing 2200kv motor and 4s lipo ( the description said it can only take 3s but the esc its self says 4s on the side) with no problems at all. Im thinking of getting one for my e-savage.

These are good setups, i have one that i run in my sons Evader EXT. The only thing you have to make sure of is to set the slipper correctly and double nut the slipper nut. If not it will tighten itself up and lock the slip mechanism and you will strip idlers and diff gears like crazy. I went through about 4 idlers and 3 diffs in the first month I had it in there. A traxxas steel idler gear is a good upgrade, but make sure you get the right bearing and you will have to take it easy for the first couple of batteries to let the wider gear set itself inside the tranny case. Hope this helps and saves you a lot of frustation in tranny issues.

I will gear to keep the temps low and we will see how it goes. This will be going in a sc10 that currently sees little use anyways.

majorpede? I have read a lot and watched your videos and appreciate ur feedback on the product. kinda influenced my decision btw
