Default AKA Tire insert in 1/10th scale buggy

1/8th scale AKA tire insert cut down for 1/10th scale 2wd buggy. I plan to use this with a JC Barcode Gold on a clay indoor track. Will this insert be to firm as it seems to add alot of round profile to the tire as well even cut down.

Let me know your thoughts please.

they work good on a high bite track. Our local track not sure if they work on that well. A blu-grooved track they work great.

One trick you can do to make them alittle softer is preforate them. If your an 1/8 racer chances are you have a leather punch for venting. I have preforated both my PL and AKA inserts to make them slightly softer and it has made them even better on our track. Sometimes the full foam will be too firm IMO

I punch them with 3 across then 2,3,2,3 etc

Cutting down a 1/8th foam into a 1/10th foam Sounds like too much work to me. Why not just get a pair of stiff Trinity Bomb 1 foams or just run the foams that come with the tire.

To soften a 1/8th scale AKA foam, carefully turn it inside out and cut slots in it with a dremel and carbon fibre disc cutter. Look at the pic of the "soft" Aka foams to see what I mean. Don't forget to balence them after you hack them up.

It's the same foam, dyed red, with slots on the inside.

If you need a lil more stiffness, just cram a truck foam in it! That gives a LOT of support!

That would be an incorrect assumption.

The soft "red" inserts are a softer durometer material.

this is off topic but has anyone tried the 1/8th scale channeled versions of the foam. I ran the old foam for a long time, but never got around to trying the new foams out yet.

I can tell you from experience the black foam is to stiff if you dont do some kind of mod to soften it. Dont know about the new stuff though.

Thumbs up

I did this to a set of foams I pulled out of a well used set of wheels I had, cut them and stuck them inside a set of new evil twins I found in a clay compound. All I have to say is WOW! I've never had such a predictable tire, it had amazing side bite and killer forward traction on a medium bite very tight indoor track. It worked so well in going to cut up some more and try them inside some pink losi taper pins.
