We will be offering a Build-A-Ballistic 550™ Program in which customers can design their own 550 motor: select the rotor, wound stator, harness length, etc. Just like our existing programs.
When will that be available?

I seen your other thread about your losi build..Very cool as I just started to get into E 1/8 buggies, and the 1800kv motor I have in it now is SUPER HEAVY (and not to mention the weight of the battery)

I found this on another thread and if the larger name brand companies can produce a lighter E version of an 8th buggy, we could get away with lesser batteries and smaller motors

I believe this is from hobby people. In a class on it's own, it should be fun, but paired against nitro/e buggys I can see durability being a problem. I think dimensionally it's the size of an 1/8 buggy, but looks to be an exaggerated sized 4wd 1/10 (longer arms, chassis and 1/8 buggy wheels)

Less weight would be a revolution for 1/8 brushless buggies. Little motors & lipos also means prices down, so it would increase even more the interest people have in BL. The two BIG weak points of BL are weight and price. One is finally related to the other. If brands manage to offer the intermediate motors that are missing, the market will explode..

What do you think of this setup?

Ballistic 550 motor in 2700kv
3S lipos

My 808 only weights 2,5kg without electronics.

We designed the B-A-B 550 program this AM---should be on-line in a week, or so.(I will post an update here.) The price of the customized Ballistic 550 with a special wound stator will be 129.99. Add the tuning rotor for an additional 5.00. Build time is usually 10 (M-F) working days.

This is a GREAT idea, exactly what people are looking for..

Will this motor also be available?

5951

HV Sintered Tuning Rotor with 5mm Shaft

14.0mm

High-voltage racing

Novak sensored brushless motors, such as HV.

Perfect for drivers looking to increase a motor's natural drag braking and torque, and improve its acceleration response. Higher temperature threshold

P/N 5951 has been replaced with this:

Sweet! That will be nice.

I am building a "light" losi 810e as well. I grabbed one of the Novak HV7.5 refub motors from the novak store for $65 just to try it out in the 1/8 buggy on 3s to see how it ran before getting into a buying a fully customized ballistic 550 motor. If the HV motor works out I might grab one of those custom ballistics.

Quick question... would the 14mm tuning rotor work in the HV7.5 motor I bought? Seems like it should.

The 14mm tuning rotors for our HVs and Ballistic 550s are identical; when we released the Ballistic motors, we re-named some of our accessories that had "Velociti" or "HV" in the listing.

We still have some RMF HVs in stock---actually, a pretty good deal:

RMF HV High-Voltage Brushless Motors -- 5mm

How much would the 14mm tuning rotor change the kv of the HV7.5 motor. It's rated 3000kv with the stock rotor. How much lower would the kv rating be with the 14mm?

When are we going to see more 4 pole motors from the "big" companies? I think these would be the best of both worlds, torque and efficiency.

If we didn't need to consider getting ROAR motor approval , spending lots of R&D time and money might be do-able.

Remember, ROAR refused to approve our earliest BL motors because we were the only company making them and "it wouldn't be fair". Same with ROAR approval for our 550 size motors for 4x4 SCTs---wouldn't be fair.

just make the motors and then ROAR will be forced to adopt them when racers demand them. Afterall, they are an organization that exists for the enthusiasts, without which they have no purpose.

4pole 550 motor please????

While every other company selling the current-style 540 motors becomes absolutely hysterical.

Why do you think ROAR decided that 540 motors were just fine for heavy 4x4 SCTs---because those same mfgs didn't want our 550s allowed. It just wouldn't be fair.
