Default why the smoke?

The setup,
I just bought an arr erevo with a evx2 and titan 775. just missing tx/rx. Came with 2 lipos, and a lvc already wired in.

I hooked up an old am tx/rx system to test it on my bench, and it all worked. I bought a new link tx and rx, had the motor off, and was trying to make sure I got it all on the correct channels, but I couldn't get any response, the esc turned on and seemed normal, but nothing worked. I tried hooking the batteries up the other way, just swapping connectors, and the wires between the lvc and esc decided to melt, in a very dramatic fashion...
Any ideas what went wrong? I'm at a loss right now.
Thanks for any help,
Dan

Sounds like you plug your batteries in backwards maybe.

That was my first thought too, I just went and checked again, the writes are all correct...the only thing that could have been backwards would be the lvc to the rx, would that have done it?

If you plug like the ESC in backwards in the receiver it won't work same with the servo as well. If no power try turning the plug around in the receiver.

I don't think that will work anymore... The lvc plugged into the rx, I could have had that backwards, I'm not sure, but the writes going from the lvc to the esc aren't there anymore.

Its like the lvc shortedout the esc wires. Would that be possible even?

Ya plugging in a battery backwards = BAD....and SMOKE and prolly a burnt up esc.....I hope you didn't do to much damage...But hooking up a battery backwards is BAAADDDDDDDD! the last person I saw do it grabbed the wires to unplug it in a matter of a second and the wires pulled out of the esc and had come un soldered.....so good luck we all make mistakes.

Wait wait wait...you have an onboard electrical problem and the first thing you try is flipping the battery wires?!?

The battery was not backwards, after hooking up another esc, minus the lvc, no smoke, so something with the lvc destroyed my esc....sweet.
any idea where I can find a diagram for installing the novak smart stop, make sure it was done correctly?

Not flipping wires... arbitrary numbers, but I had battery one plugged into esc input one, battery two plugged into esc input two. I just changed it to battery one into esc input two, and battery two into esc input one, in hindsight, that shouldn't have made mattered.
But, switching them did fry the esc...

Post a picture if you can. I suspect you shorted things out via a ground loop with the ESC, the cutoff and the receiver.

I have narrowed it down to one of 3 things, either the ESC was bad, the smart stop was bad, or i hooked something up wrong. I hooked up a different ESC, and bypassed the smart stop. Drove it around for a while last night.

A picture would be hard to get right now, since i have hooked things up differently right now.

the only wires that i could have had backwards would have been the RX to smart stop wire. But that one didn't fry, it was the one between the smart stop and the ESC. I'm confident in nothing else being backwards because i havent changed anything, except removing the smart stop, and changing the ESC.

So I'll be sending the EVX2 to traxxas, but what would you recommend for a good LVC?

Here is a link to our Download page; SmartStops are listed in the "Module" section:

TeamNovak Downloads

Did you purchase these items new, or second-hand?
