I ran a MMP and tekin 7.5 540 in my Jammin all summer long and had zero heat issues after a few tweaks of the MMP. I had temps in the 140s in 90*+ humid weather. I ran from 3-9* timing on the can and the rest ramped in on the ESC to pick up top end. I finished higher in the points than any 550 trucks. The top 3 spots went to the Velineon, its a very underated system in my opinion.

I like the new Castle systems but I am wondering if the sidewinder can push the amperage that the 4x4s need. Im sure the 4 pole motor helps with efficiency but just not sure about it. For the price though I think it will be a huge hit.

With the many failures we have seen at our local track with 550's and their ESC counter parts we still highly recommend racing with a 540 with a boosted ESC.

We have had very good success with Speed Passion's 2.0 GT and 2.0 GT Pro as well as Tekin RS and RS Pro with 7.5 and 8.5 Speed Passion and Fantom Duo motors.

If you plan to just "bash" then a 550 would be your best bet as you can run battery after battery with a lower temp.

The 540 is a much smoother driving motor and can provide higher top speed than a 550 all with the ESC staying 20+ degrees cooler. Cogging is never an issue and neither is running lower C rated batteries.

Sure, the motors get hotter than a 550 but they can take it. It's the electronics that can and do fail with the amperage that a 550 draws as well as the related issues with cogging and the need for high C rated batteries.

The sidewinder is no good for a 4wd SC, the MMP is your best choice by Castel, Kinetic/Havoc SC, RS Pro all are suited for the need's of a 550 motor. Which are the best suited motor's for a 4wd SCT.

I have ran a VXL set-up just not enough torque to slid around the corner's at high speed's. Plus it's un-sensored.

With the arrival of Novak's Novalink and Havoc SC. Traxxas has some catching up in the Program dept. They could easily have a interface program
just like Hobbywing, and LRP which use's the "Supercharged" lingo. All the same.

Formula_2001 do your self a favor and choose something that will give you the best result's for your money.

I see already two different opinion's, ..... two different location's .... alway's pick what will suit your need's

I realize the normal Sidewander isn't good for 4x4 SCT, but i wqas refering to the Sidewinder SCT specific, that is due to release any day now.. Tower is takign pre-orders for $119, that's pretty cheap in comparison to the Novak, that I know still has it's problem.. BTW If I spend that much on the Novak, I'll just pick up another MMM and get the 2650kv motor I've read alot about guys running this on 4x4 Slash on 2s.. Then I could have fun up to 6s if I want to..

Thanks for all the info gentlemen.. I am still pretty new to E power, I am a nitro guy, and jsut want something similar in handling to a 1/8 buggy, and I figure 4x4 SC is the ticket..

Tekin RX8 and one of their new SC4X 4.5 or 5.5 turn 550 motors.

Cheaper route would still be the CC MMM or MMP, with motor of choice..

Currently have RX8 with Novak Ballistic 4.5 550. Tekin SC4X 5.5 hopefully will arrive shortly.

Early feedback from those who have received their SC4X's has been very good.

I have an old Novak GTB with a 8.5 that I was thinking about throwing in my new SCRT. I'm more of a nitro racer and just picked this up to play w/ in hops of getting some of the bashers turned into racers.... If the 8.5 doesn't work out, will my GTB handle the Novak 550? Also, what C rating are most of ya'll running?

the gtb works real good with the 550 motors. i have a fantom 4.5 hooked up to one and it is unreal fast and smooth.
i am also running the tekin 4x with a mmp in a jammin with great results. super fast and real smooth.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I picked up the new Castle Sidewinder 4-pole SCT combo.

I haven't had a chance ot run it yet, as it just arrived yesterday and it was raining here.. I also need to pick up some pinion gears so I can find the optimal gearing..

Novak controllers compatible with our Ballistic 550s, down to 4.5 turn on 2S:

GTB
GTB 2
Havoc Pro SC
Havoc Pro
Kinetic 2S
SLYDR

These escs all have 0.00040ohm on-resistance and a 3.5 (540) and 4.5 (550) motor limit.
