Default 4s or 5s runtime question

Which would give me more run time with a 1518 (1800kv)castle motor in a truggy, 5800 4s or 5000 5s ? (geared for the same speed, approx 35mph for racing)

thanks in advance

Darren

5800mah 4S = 83.52Wh
5000mah 5S = 92.5Wh

so the winner is 5S

also 5S will run cooler. however 5S 5000mah battery is quite heavy. I use 3300mah-4200mah in my truggy on 5S depending on runtime needed.

Default Working on a Calculator

I've got a calculator that will do this online, unfortunately I can't post links till I've done a few. It compares 2 batteries and tells you which will have the longest runtime. (doesn't take into account playing harder with a higher voltage pack )

It's the latest post on the rc site in my signature.

I'm looking for 15mis run time, I've got the 4s batteries already for my buggy, if they dont make it I'll have to bit the bullet and get a couple of 5s for the truggy (the size and weight of the 4s 5800 and 5s 5000 is almost identical)

my t8 1900 in my ve8 can easily go 40+ mins on a 4s 5400.

15 minutes shouldn't be a problem at all. My mmm/2200 combo goes for 25-26 minutes on a 4S 4500 geared for over 40.

Of course it will depend a lot on the track and gearing, etc.

25 minutes on a 4500 4s,hmmmmmmmm that sounds a bit exaggerated. i to run a cc mmm v3 with a 2200kv on 4s 5000mah and get 13 minutes tops. geared for about 30-35. have tried all sorts of throttle curves etc and 13 minutes is the most i can get. am planning on gettig a 5800mah to try and break the 15 minute mark. i read alot of posts claiming 20-25 minute runtimes with castle 2200kvs on 4s.i doubt these claims.

they only way to get longer run time with higher volts is dropping kv of the motor. just going higher volts will increase amp draw

I think the 'C' rating will also determine runtime.

I race with Scooterboy and have 4s 6000mah 25-50c nano's and get over 20 mins runtime withoout hitting the LVC. Problem is the battery is very heavy and affects balance from side to side. This is with mmm 2200.

The track we race on is also very bumpy, rough, variety of surfaces and even a well set-up/balanced car can get caught out. If we go home from a days racing and our buggies/truggies are still in one piece it's one of two things; We haven't been racing hard enough or we got lucky.

with the mmm 2200 combo in the truggy and 5800 4s i have hit the lvc (3.2 per cell) at 14 minutes every time, and that is not full race pace but taking it easy
with the buggy and a lekton 2200kv motor i use less than 4000mah in a 15 min final at full race speed but the buggy is 1kg lighter.
I couldn't resist a 1518 for $60 and was hoping this with the 5800 4s would get me 15 mins or if 5000 5s would be better

Maybe breaking the rules but here's a link to a similar thread on RCmonster...

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28030

Looks like the 1518 on 4s wins, geared for the same speed.

Cheers Blackcat, I'll give the 1518 a go on 4s and see how it goes, hopefully it will be here for the start of the winter championship
