Carbon Fiber is very nasty to work with in manufacturing. Plus it's more work to make sure it's perfectly straight/flat.

The easiest and most common material for pit board is Lexan or similar plastic. You can find a local wholesale plastics business that can sell you a piece cut to whatever dimensions you want. Run you about $40-60 depending on size and thickness.

Sure but you better coat or laminate it with something. Water/chemicals/etc do not mix well with MDF....

Yes you do, I couldn't think of the right word for the laminate, could probably get a scrap from a sink cutout at a countertop manufacturer.

I was thinking MDF, but alumilite looks interesting. Anyone know where to get it and how much it costs? I did some google searching and haven't found any pricing. Looking for 24 x 18.

When I buy it for signs, I get it in 4x8 sheets for about 100$. Call a local sign supply place and see what they can get you a piece for. Or, search online for some.

Simple Floormat from wal-mart! Works fine! Easy to shake off the dirt at the end of the day!
