Default New Hyper TT Truck

Thought I would share some photos of my sons new Big Red Truck
Lachlan (6 years) was getting tired of being lapped by myself and his uncle’s at the Local track. He has been driving RC buggies for approx 3 years now and has shown great improvement lately driving his Losi XXXT.

He liked the TT but also like the look of the larger Trucks getting around. So with some minor modifications to a TT (Habao SC front shock tower and body posts, some rear shocks to the front, plus a HPI body) we have the Hyper 1/10 scale Truck.

I hate to say it but it gets around the track better than my standard TT and handles the jumps really well. The modifications have also deleted the tendency to nose dive on jumps and it turns on a dime.

That was all you changed, and you got better steering and less nose diving?

Yes that’s all I have changed. I must point out that after driving the buggy on the weekend; it would be fair to say it still requires a little throttle to keep its nose up but nowhere as bad as my standard TT.

Plus I am comparing my TT which has a RX8 speedy and 550 motor weighing in at 2.6kg (race trim) and my sons TT which has a R1 and 540 motor weighing in at 2.2kg. Therefore the extra weight (larger shocks and shock tower) directly over the front wheels in a light buggy seems to help heaps.

The steering has never been a problem for myself but the modified Truck TT defiantly has better handling characteristics through the corners and in the rough “in my humble opinion” than mine. It now drives more like a short course Truck with heaps of drop in the front end.

Hi mate, it’s a 1/10 scale MX-1 Truck body (code 7161) which is apparently base of the older HPI RS4 MT series. I would imagine other body’s in that range would also work well.

There were no modifications made to the MX-1 body to fit the Hyper TT, I just followed the original cut-out lines and drilled out the body post holes to suit. If you are interested I can provide photos of the front and rear shock tower set-ups.

Just would like to know what the standard(kit) tyres are like for gritty clay surface.

What tires & rims are you using on your green TT?

Hi Mate

They are Pro-Line 2715-04 Split Six 2.2/3.0 Bead Lock Rear Rims SC and Proline Gladiator SC Tire M2 2.2"/3.0" 1169-01

Split rims have worked flawlessly for me and the tires have not even looked like coming off. The Gladiators work well on hard compacted tracks with loose top surface without excessive tread ware.

Yeah you can't fault them on this truck at least on my local track which is a loose clay/sand mix.

Yes I agree. It's very unappreciated class. It's fun and inexpensive to buy parts. Where I race, we had this class up and running for a while. There were about 10 of us but it has died down lately. Now they mix us up with the 4X4 1/10 Buggy Class. We are still trying to pump life into this class.

Alot of the complaints stem from steering difficulties and how easy it is to break the front turn buckles.
