[QUOTE=macnkitty2002;8690444]Got my truck all together tonight and I'm rather proud of my handywork considering I have limited resources and most of my gear at home (I'm currently at college). Numerous zip-ties helped tie down my gear but it looks pretty clean to me. Seeing as I got this truck second-hand, I am missing some stock items namely the pinion gear. That is the one thing I need right now to run the truck! The guy sent me a 14 tooth pinion that is too large for my Castle Sidewinder 3800 motor. The inside diameter of the pinion is 5mm and of course the motor is around 3mm. The spur gear is 42 teeth, apparently he switched out the stock blue spur.

My question is, where can I get a pinion gear that will work for me and what size pinion should I get for general purposes? I want to get this thing going!

I don't have any pinion advice, sorry. 1 piece of advice would be to take the fan off the motor and put it on the esc.

I'm running the SCT system in my CRT.5, the motor temps were fine the esc were not. Since putting the fan on the esc, I"ve been good to go.

14t pinion will possibly run really hot, especially for racing.

I'm running a 12t and plan on going 11t.
and DEF stay away from a 16T, my SCT ESC went bye bye

Honestly I'd recommend 11t or 12t at the most if you are running a 1/10th scale ESC and motor. I can't comment if you are running the SC or 1/8th scale sized stuff, I have no experience with it in the TT.

The 11t and 12t are plenty. I wheelie halfway down the back straight and have more speed than the little truck can handle.

For bashing it may not matter, for racing I'd say 11t or 12t.

The castle SCT system in my truck with a 15T pinion and J-Concepts barcodes is only warm after 20+ min practice sessions at my track (cap city r/c). Temp has also been even between the esc and motor. It has plenty of speed and punch.

I finally got this thing dialed in and it is putting down some quick laps and has really been fun. Also, thanks to the t-bone front bumper, boiled parts and the strc AL top plate (front) I have not broken a thing in the past 10+ hours at the track

Castle's gearing guide states 10-13t.

Well I got the truck with two spurs, a black 42t attached to the truck and a (stock?) blue spur that is also 42t. Came with the 14t pinion.

I am just going to be bashing it for now and I don't want to kill my new motor, should I try a 12t first? What's the max temp my motor should get?

Bashing, 14t is probably okay.

It's the start/stop/heavy braking of racing that really heats things up.

I bought the truck second hand, the previous owner installed them. You can ask hogsmansp (who I bought it from).

They were probably for the Hyper 10SC, most of the parts work on both.

Very nice towers I must add! The extra camber holes really helped dial the truck in. Sorry for the 5mm pinion I thought there was a 13t 3mm included in the bag that had the stock spur gear in it? Let me know I will get you one on the way if I have it. Scott

Well thank you, I also make Chassis and center lower brace too for the truck.
