Combining different brand motor and ESC is new to me, I've seen the Tekin ESC a lot on here with Mamba motor.

Trying out a new set up tonight for the first time:

Going from the Castle Creations SCT combo to a Ballistic 550 4.5T/Speed Passion GT2.0...

off topic but do I need to run the capacitor that came with my ESC?

It would work, however it's not sensored and IF your going to go non sensored use the Castle SCT 3800 combo for $120 and get a Gen Ace 5000 Lipo for $40 from hobbyparts.com and you'll be happier in the end.

What's the difference between sensored and non-sensored? I'd just be bashing anyhow.

The motor will have sensor assembly with cable running from the sensor to the speed controller - the benefits of using the sensors are smooth throttle especially at low speed and the ability to boost the motor with timing dynamically from the ESC.
Just bashing you might not need one, racing in mod classes it rates from pretty nice, to required anymore -
Most sensored motors will work on a sensorless ESC.
I'd look at something like this for bashing w/15-16T pinion:

Here they are pretty good with the 4 pole motors -

I'd wait for the Castle to come back into stock or spend a few bucks more for something a little stouter. The Traxxas VXL works pretty good in these if your budget, couple guys were them running locally in the Hyper 10SC and TT - they are a cross between a 540/550 motor.

That's what comes in the stock RTR SC10, well it uses the reedy 3300. In any case I would not recommend it for a 1/10 4x4.

damn this combo is nice!

I am def a firm believer of how much smoother sensored motors are compared to non-sensored. Temps were ~148/motor, ~100/ESC, ~100 on the battery with a 16T and stock spur on defult settings on a full pack. I may go down to a 15T, we'll see.
