Default HELP: Mod 4wd, tekin rs pro, SP 7.5R... it's stock slow..

Hi,

I think something wrong with my setup. I am running a cat sx2 with a tekin rs pro and speed passion 7.5R. I have my tekin set in dual mode with 80% timing (i believe that may add 20* or so). But running cat outside, it doesn't seem fast. It looks slower that my stock 17.5 cougar sv (that with boost of course). My setup doesn't look competitive at all. I have check all of the norms like sensor is connected correctly, a->a, b->b, c->c from esc to motor. Lipo is good (its brand new charged at 35%, i know i need to charge but i doubt this is it). my batter is an elite 5000mah 50c 2s. Im not sure what other details i need to provide... Oh, i am running like a 83T spur and 20T pinion.

Any help would be appreciated!

thx

Why are you running it in dual mode? Put it in sensored mode, give it like 30 dg of timing and see how it runs.

i thought mod likes dual mode. i though low turn motors like to be sensoredless.... i can try that... i'll be collecting everyone thoughts and try everything later tonight... so please, keep on posting!

thx

Everyone at my local offroad track runs sensored even with mod motors, it should be smoother.

I'm going to guess that running a motor with a sensor in senorless mode the key will be finding the right combination of motor and speedo timing, and then gearing of course.

the reason why many peeps run low turn motors (ie 5.5, 4.5T) motors in dual is because they have enough grunt and running a little bit cooler is preferable.
Although 7.5 is a mod, I'd be either be running max timing in the esc in dual or run in sensored only and gradually increacse timing until you get the speed you want with out overheating.

I see.. so, 7.5 isn't "mod enough"...

thing is, it doesn't look close to mod..

What is your fdr in the 4wd buggy? I would suggest sensored only as well, but most people don't need to add any extra timing with mod motors offroad. My setup in a b44 would hover around:
Sensored only
6.5 tekin sensored motor with 12 degrees on the can
10 to 20 degrees of boost
start rpm 10k
end rpm 30k
FDR around 10.5

Sorry, what's fdr?

Final drive ratio? I'm not sure

Yup, final drive ratio.

For me it works out like this: 84/20 (spur divided by the pinion) times 2.5 (gearbox ratio)

I tried your setup and it still looks a little slow... im not sure what's the deal... maybe my expectation is a little off... Am i reaching too high in the sky?

The cat sx has an adjustable internal ratio of 2.4, 2.6. or 2.8 to 1
You'll have to look at how you set the car up to find that out...
I would put in the 2.4:1 setup with a 20 to 22 tooth pinion with your 83 tooth spur.

ps, I don't think your reaching too high; just expecting too much right off the bat without testing.

I think you're geared too low. I ran my Durango with a Tekin 7.5 geared 22/87 and my transmission ratio is 2.47. If your transmission ratio is 2.6 you should try a 22 or 23 tooth pinion
