Questions?? 1/10 Losi and Associated Shock Similarities, springs and pistons

I am wondering if anyone knows what shock springs are similar between 1/10 Losi and Associated shocks. Also what pistons are similar? I know associated uses 2 holes and losi uses 3

I have used the search and have found no info about this

thankyou, eric

Losi shocks are a little bigger in diameter so there really aren`t any similarities .

Yeah and you cant mix AE Springs with Losi Springs.
It's either one or the other since they are designed different.

Kyosho and Tamiya springs are however the same.
Since both companies are japanese.

Losi is american, AE is german, it's like mixing a BMW with a TransAm.
Losi pistons are larger than AE pistons.

I am not trying to run losi and associated parts on the same shock. I am running losi shocks on my associated car and am wondering what spring colors are similar when comparing the shocks. Also what piston color/number is similar between the shocks.

Say If I'm running #2 and green springs on associated shocks, what is similar to that on the losi shocks.

I know Losi spring rates but you will have to look up AE spring rates to compare . No sense in comparing pistons as you can`t use AE pistons in Losi shocks .

Try this for springs. Something I've picked up along the way, no guarantees, use at your own risk.

That conversion chart does work, just beware that aside from rate, Losi does different lengths. Our local AE factory guy has used losi front springs for certain setups. I used to use the Losi pistons in AE bodies, they fit more accurately and the shock bodies wear better/leak less, as well as an amount of "pack" that I liked better.

I am not trying to use mix and match a pair of shocks up from losi and associated parts. I am running full losi shocks on an associated buggy and truck. I want to know color pistons to run in losi shocks that would give similar damping to #2 pistons in associated shocks

Think you would have to have both AE and Losi pistons in front of you . Losi uses drill bit sizes and not sure what AE uses for their #1 , #2, and etc sizes .

Might have to match the pistons yourself. There is a lot more to it than the area of the holes, unfortunately fluid dynamics ain’t that simple. Plus need to include the gap around the outer edge between the body, are the thicknesses different, etc.

Perhaps build both with the same oil and compare back to back, then experiemnt with pistons. Use both a slow and fast speed, to attempt to capture “pack”. One of these could help:

Of course just tuning for vehicle performance would be best.

thankyou for all the help. I see what you mean about putting them on and practicing and tuning it, but I have the buggy dialed in perfect but I have the cheap blue associated shocks on it and they are crap haha. So i want to change to a set of Losi shocks i just bought
