There is no saving, im a full time college student. My budget is my budget and can not be raised. After talking to a few guys that race at the local track last night, they all are running 4s lipos and 2200kv motors on the short track we have.

I guess i dont understand how a 2000kv motor, 150a esc and a lipo that pushes 175a isnt a high amp/ low kv system like your saying. Also the esc is only rated up to a 4s.

High voltage is nice, but not necessary.. I've been racing weekly my tekno 8ight-te for 1.5yrs with a MMM combo (2200kv) on 4s 6500mAH lipo with out issues. Granted I use mechanical brakes, but most people don't. What the others are getting at is that high amp draw is what kills; kills lipo's, kills ESCs, amps cause heat and it's the killer with any electronics. The way to reduce amp draw is increase voltage.. with that being said 14.8v (4s) with a good motor combo not pushed beyond normal limits will be just fine. Keep in mind with the higher voltage lower C rated lipo's are less of an issue and also keep in mind you don't need as much mAH to run for the same amount of time. The actual pack size (weight) remains nearly the same as you add more cells though it just washes.

14.8v x 5000mAH = 74000
18.5v x 4000mAH = 74000
22.2v x 3333mAH = 74000

These three packs will, even though different mAH, get you the same run time in your truggy as long as your MPH is geared the same for each setup. Obviously you need different motor KV ratings to keep the MPH down to the typical 38-40mph most want. The 22.2v system will run cooler due to less amp draw to meet the power needs.. may even get a few extra seconds out of it, but not enough to note typically. If you run the 2200 motor and 6s lipo, not only will the motor be at its physical max, it will not see any gains from the additional voltage.

Hope that helps a little...

That helps out but now i dont know what i should do.....i have only 350.00 for the ESC/Motor and 1 Lipo. I can get the Mamba Monster/2200kv combo for 250.00 at the LHS or order the HobbyWing for 220.00 shipped. For the Lipo i was going to order from Hobbyking.com but only from there US warehouse.

Watch ebay for way better prices.. people sell MMM esc's pulled from e-revo's, the new e-maxx's and several others including a HPI MTs. I've seen several sold on this forum in the "selling" area as well for under 200. Many folks say good things about hobbywing combo as well.. so it's still a choice. Do which ever works best for you iMO ($$ wise). Lipo just needs to match if you get a 2200 motor get at least a 30c~35c 5000mAH pack iMO, if you get lower KV motors you can get 5s or 6s lipo's with less mAH as noted above.

Quick question, how do you get mechanical brakes to work with a ESC??

I would suggest you buy an XeRun 150A at eBay, blue colour, more splash-proof than the MMM. Trust me, I have burnt two MMM and now I have several XeRun 150A's. No problem with these...

You need a 3 channel radio first off.. bind your 3rd channel to the throttle, have it set for no movement w/ forward and as much as needed w/ reverse for the brakes. Then disable brakese in your ESC (or set to zero).

If you go down the mechanical braking path (the best path you can go down with brushless imo) make sure you choose a radio that does channel mixing via the throttle, like the DX3R

plenty of radios with mixing only offer it to the steering (like the common double steering servos in MT's)

Bro, I suggest if u are on budget get 150xerun esc or 80xerun esc n 2000kv(4274 motor) get Zippy Lipo n don't get mechanical brakes( extra servo n extra hardware)

When u hv more budget change to slip diff by Rc monster ( prevents your diff n motor from getting damage when you jump )

X1 CRT center diff is 62 way too big n too close too Lipo tray. Change it if u hv budget.

A tekno conversion is cheaper and better... you get the traction drive (or can use as clutch) and you don't need to waste money on the slipperential, nice design, but the traction/clutch drive does the same thing and is better at it. The tekno kit comes with a new chassis and is setup for using mechanical brakes.. as long as there is one for this vehicle ( I havn't looked). But they do have conversion for most truggies. PS it's easy to change out the center diff gear if needed.
